TROPHY CASE

resume (x-post from teachers) by super_soprano13in choralmusic

[–]mcl523 0 points1 point ago

Go to r/jobs or r/education or r/musiced for answers. There will be seasoned recruiters, principals, administrators, and teachers there who can help you. Good luck! Also consult your school's career services, most colleges or cert programs have one.

Your resume should look clean and not too cluttered. ONE PAGE. hirers will spend sometimes as little as 3 seconds looking at it- they should be able to tell what kind of teacher you'll be. On the top, put your name in big capital letters, centered, then follow by your contact info- current address, permanent address, phone number, email. Google search sample resumes for a better idea of how it can look. Also NEVER use a template- employers will recognize them and throw your resume out once they do. Then under your info put your education first. College, degree, relevant coursework, GPA (if it was high). Then relevant experience under that.

In terms of what to put on the resume, you should first make a massive list full of everything that you've ever done. Then start to trim it down to experiences that are relevant to the positions you apply for. If its choral high school teaching gigs (like I am applying for at the moment as well), then only put down music / teaching experiences. It should only be 1 page long. Cater your resume to the school or jobs you want. Don't give them everything - or too many details, that's what the cover letter and interview are for. Feel free to pm me with more questions.

Also, I'm assuming that you already student taught. Ask your coordinating teacher for advice! Your relationship with him or her is CRUCIAL for securing a job. Mostly every employer will want their contact information to ask how you were as a student teacher.

Again, pm me with more questions of you have them. Also look in /r/jobs and /r/education for help. Good luck!

I want to be a music teacher too!

Some common questions I've come across are:

How do you assess your students? How does Assessment play into your classroom?

Budget cuts, people saying we should cut music, yada yada, how do you defend?

thoughts on how to approach these?

Purple shirt and number on the back seems like a class Tshirt (but of course it's not for certain.) in light of recent events I wouldn't be surprised if it were some disgruntled racist Caucasian guy.

Care to explain why? Is it because you think it's boring? Do you not "get" it?

Brahms 3 <-- this piece started a fight recently.

Mahler 5 <--- Mahler was a bahler

Shostakovich cello concerto 1 <-- bad ass.

Shostakovich string quartet 8 <-- best for metal heads

Shostakovich symphony no. 5 <--- YESSS

Reich Music for 18 musicians <--- pretty cool after the first 30 minutes.

Grieg piano concerto <-- EPIIICC.

Rachmaninoff rhapsody on a theme by Paganini <-- EPIC!
