I also don't like coffee, but green tea is an excellent replacement. If you don't like green tea you most likely have not tried a good one. Sencha is a good tea to start.

Here is a link to a video about saturated fats: http://j.mp/LuK8Lg

When you look at the data, people who have the highest saturated fat in their diets have the lowest risk of heart disease. Lots of native tribes eat mostly saturated fat.

Also, the mother milk has 45% saturated fat. It would be crazy to think evolution would put that much saturated fat into mother milk when it would be harmful to your body...

Olive oil is very similar to oolichan grease. It is believed that oolichan grease once comprised up to half the energy intake of the Northwest Coastal diet, so through evolution the humans are very adapted to this kind of fat. Olive oil is very similar, it too is very high in monounsaturated fat. Stay away from fats that are rich in Omega 6. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) can be bad for you, see e.g. http://paleodietlifestyle.com/many-dangers-of-excess-pufa-consumption/

See http://www.cbc.ca/thelens/bigfatdiet/grease.html for some information about oolichan grease.

Most doctors still believe high cholesterol is bad, which is not the case. High LDL-Particle count is bad, high cholesterol can in fact be protective.

Also, most people still believe that saturated fat is bad for you. This is only the case in a high carb diet. In a low carb diet, saturated fat is quickly oxidized and used as fuel and not bad at all.

Vegetable oils are believed to be very healthy, when in fact they cause inflammation. Olive oil and coconut oil are one of the few exceptions that are actually healthy.

I only buy 99%, and it's awesome. It lasts longer than you think, you can't just eat it like a 85%.

A study by the USDA shows that a high fat diet can make your baby diabetic. Example of high fat food used: Ice cream. by e0dfamin keto

[–]martinus 6 points7 points ago

The study itself is not so bad, as far as I can say. It just reports the results for a 45% fat, 20% protein, 35% carbs diet with rats. The interpretation of the data on sciencedaily is what's so bad.

I'd love to see a lot more science and scientific discussions here, but I think reddit is the wrong place for this.

I think I have found the study: http://jp.physoc.org/content/early/2011/03/28/jphysiol.2010.203950.full.pdf+html

The reference to ice cream was probably just from the journalist, it is not mentioned in the study.

The ratios of the calories for control diet and the high fat diet were:

  • 7% fat, 20% protein, 64% carbs for control diet
  • 45% fat, 20% protein, 35% carbs for high fat diet

All rats could eat as much as they like, so both groups most likely did not get the same amount of calories.

All in all, nothing new here. This was a moderate fat moderate carb diet, which is known to be worse that both low fat or low carb.

Loosing endurance by nitenite79in keto

[–]martinus 2 points3 points ago

I think you can do it every day. When on keto the kidney switches from "store-all-the-salt!" mode into "get-rid-of-that-salt" mode, so you need a lot more salt in the diet. Dr. Eric Westman and several other low carb experts recommends this. There are several studies about this, one study showed that professional cyclists did not lose performance when they upped the salt/potassium intake when on a ketogenic diet.

Get more salt in your diet: Drink water with one bouillon cube in the morning, and one in the afternoon.

I'm curious about this, why are you having a hard time with high fat? To me the only difference is that I have to eat less to feel full. The other difference is that fatty food just tastes better, so I can't complain
