Adding other peoples music to an App by thecatmeowsin androiddev

You are basically guaranteed to be sued. Nobody does this, because it's incredibly stupid. Just license the music or commission some.

Does Apple contribute to the open source community? by puppyfartsin linux

[–]m1ss1ontomars2k4 3 points4 points ago

I'm guessing these are more the modifications they made to get the code to work for them.

Yes, but a lot of these contributions they are not required to release, but they do.

That isn't contribution at all.

As I said, no argument from me here.

Still, to say that they do no more than the bare minimum or that they do not release any code is wrong. Just because someone's contributions aren't useful to anyone else doesn't mean they haven't released any code.

EDIT: To make myself more clear: they never had to release any BSD-licensed code, but they did. Sure, it is not really that useful, but they did it anyway. At least they tried .They also released a bunch of APSL-licensed code, which again, they didn't have to, but they did. How is it their fault that we don't find their contributions useful?

What do you mean by that?

Does Apple contribute to the open source community? by puppyfartsin linux

[–]m1ss1ontomars2k4 10 points11 points ago

No. This is wrong.

They've gone full steam reverse in ripping out GCC

So has FreeBSD, but you don't hear anyone complaining about their use of Clang/LLVM (well, you do, but it's not with regard to licensing/IP/etc.).

They "contribute" only the bare minimum to comply with the letter of the law.

http://opensource.apple.com/release/mac-os-x-1074/

Tons of BSD-licensed code, none of which they had to open-source.

No, I will not go so far as to say that they actually contribute to open source (seeing as most of the stuff they release is really not very useful), but to say that they only contribute the bare minimum is blatantly wrong and extremely disingenuous. They contribute way more than they have to; it's just not very useful.

[–]m1ss1ontomars2k4 3 points4 points ago

For once, poor grammar is actually making you hard to understand.

Actually Apple has contributed quite a lot to the BSD community

How?

and since they're licensed with the BSD-license

Is this "and" supposed to be here? If so, then your sentence is incomplete. If not, then your sentence is wrong; BSD license doesn't mean "contributing to BSD".

I don't know why you're being downvoted, but this is exactly the conclusion we came to on reddit when this was first talked about a few months ago.

You deleted your post in /r/ideasfortheadmins, so I'm going to post this here instead.

Freedom of speech, blah blah blah...

Anyway, who would decide what things "have a negative influence on one's mind"? Although /r/atheism posts have long irritated me, I really can't say I would ever have thought that they could have such an influence. I'm fairly certain the people over there would think posts from /r/Christianity also have a "negative influence", so I think you're being a little unfair. You'll just have to accept the fact that reddit is a largely "atheist" (really, a lot of them claim to be atheists but are often agnostic) place, and you'll have to learn to live with that if you want to stay here. You don't have to like /r/atheism posts, but you can't let them get to you either. Don't forget 2 Timothy 2:15--"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."

As for posts that are "used to make someone else feel bad", I do think that's the point--as pointed out in the comments to your other post, some posts are intended to make you question your beliefs. Do you really, truly believe what you say you believe? Or are you just saying you believe it or pretending to believe it just because you're afraid of change?

I'd like to say that I don't really believe in anything in particular (not anymore anyway), and I find most of the posts on both /r/atheism and /r/Christianity to be extremely irritating, but you don't see me asking for such posts to be removed. If you're really feeling suicidal, /r/SuicideWatch is probably where you want to be, not /r/atheism.

It also matters in the Pac-12. That's partly why the Pac-12 will probably never take Boise State but they'll pursue Texas and Utah.

The only reason Google means "search on the Internet" is because there's no other worthwhile search engine...people don't mean "search with Bing" when they say "Google"; they literally mean they will Google it.

I'd like to know what the actual justification was for the war if there weren't any WMDs. Surely those in charge didn't just pull a King Leoric and send soldiers off to die.

I doubt all the hacking happened recently. My account could have been compromised years ago, with no ill effects since I didn't have WoW or D3. They could have been waiting for me to have some real value attached to my account before they decided to actually use my account.

I'm just saying, taking a picture with a lens with a long focal length isn't taking an up-close picture. It's exactly the opposite of an up-close picture.
