Welcome Vesper Opal! by lil_britchesin BabyBumps

[–]lil_britches[S] 6 points7 points ago

I was raised Catholic & was familiar with Vespers, but my husband was actually reading Casino Royale (the James Bond novel) and the main female character was named Vesper. We've been coming up with baby names way before I even got pregnant and he said what about that? We both liked it but had kind of forgotten about it until we were going through a baby name book again during my pregnancy. We just really like the sound of it. It also means "evening star" in Latin which we thought was lovely.

Going in tomorrow for a c-section, any last minute advice? by lil_britchesin BabyBumps

[–]lil_britches[S] 0 points1 point ago

I have a tendency to push myself too hard so that will be a challenge to just allow myself to take it easy, but I know it's important. I'm also hoping that the breastfeeding goes ok, but I know it'll be a challenge. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for that honest reply. The advice to talk to the baby during the procedure I think is really great. I'll do that. Also I hope you're recovering well now!

The prints I'm basing my entire nursery theme around. Husband is ecstatic! by LittleNibblerin BabyBumps

Very cute! We based ours around a couple of these We got the Kraken and Leviathan. Like dummies though we framed the Leviathan which is supposed to glow in the dark behind UV protectant glass. So no glowing :( They look totally adorable though. I wish we had more room because I want more!

Is there anyone from Michigan here who has gone to UofM for prenatal care and/or delivery? If you haven't I would still like some insight on the differences between an OB and CNM. by eatthemeek22in BabyBumps

[–]lil_britches 0 points1 point ago

I'm not sure how much you know about the new hospital but there are 8 rooms with laboring tubs and one with an actual birthing tub so you can actually have a water birth if you want one!

Yes! I see the CNM practice at east Ann arbor & love love love them. My pregnancy has turned out to be high risk & I'll have to have a c-section and they've not only provided me with awesome medical care but have gone above & beyond with emotional care. The cesarean I'll be having will be as close to s natural birth as I can hope for thanks to them. I had an emergency that landed me at Genesys hospital in Genesee Co. & the difference was night & day. The OBs there were much less personable & tolde they'd do a c-section on me at 36 weeks if I was their patient. UofM is trying to keep this baby cooking for as long as possible. I'm scheduled for the birth at 38.5 weeks. If you want to PM me I'd be happy to provide more details, but with UofM you really get the best of both worlds (natural with access to amazing medical resources with no judgement or pressure). Plus the new hospital is amazingly great!

I think this is one of those gender predictor kits. You use them after you're pregnant.

40 Week Doctor's Appointment Tomorrow Morning... by Clizain BabyBumps

[–]lil_britches 2 points3 points ago

Some areas have something called dial-a-doula where you can get volunteer doulas for free. It's worth checking out if it's possibility. I'm sure you'll do fantastic however things play out. I'll keep you in my thoughts!

40 Week Doctor's Appointment Tomorrow Morning... by Clizain BabyBumps

[–]lil_britches 1 point2 points ago

Have you looked into hiring a doula? They won't help until you actually go into labor, but if you are able to go into labor naturally they can act as an advocate for you so that you don't end up with interventions that you don't want, and you'll have a support which may reduce the time you're in labor. It's never too late! Good luck! I hope things turn out really well for you!

Econobums VS thirsties? by becnewcin clothdiaps

[–]lil_britches 0 points1 point ago

I got a demo of the flips at a store and as mrs_snorgles says, you don't need to use them with a snappi. You can just trifold the prefolds inside of them and tuck them into the flap in the front and you're all set. I registered for flips but didn't get any. I did however get a bunch of different styles of hand me downs (thirsties, bummis, g diapers and one wool cover) so we'll see what we actually end up liking when push comes to shove.

Has anyone used GentleBirth? by Stratstarin BabyBumps

[–]lil_britches 1 point2 points ago

I've been doing BlissBorn home study. It was recommended to me from someone here on reddit. I'm only three weeks into the class, but we had an emergency this weekend where I was taken to the hospital by ambulance and I was bleeding pretty heavily. The skills I learned in the first three classes got me through it. I should have been loosing my shit, but I stepped back and remained calm so I'd say that the Blissborn stuff is worth every penny even if I don't get to use it in labor. (BTW baby and I are totally fine now. Phew!)

Deep-Fried Romance: Candlelit Valentine’s Day Dinners at Waffle House, White Castle by BlankVersein fastfood

[–]lil_britches 0 points1 point ago

My husband & I did white castle one year for V day. All the employees got to wear their best bar clothes instead of uniforms & waited on us tableside. There were tablecloths & candles. I ordered the "surf & turf" which was a fish patty sandwiched in the middle of a double cheese slider. It was basically a cube of sandwich. All in all it was a fun time.

When is your due date? by Wesain BabyBumps

I'm due April 1. When we announced everyone wasn't sure if it was the earliest April Fools Day joke or not because no one thought we'd ever have kids.

Crib mattresses: Organic? Air out? Just marketing hype? by ShannonOhin BabyBumps

[–]lil_britches 0 points1 point ago

I just ordered this one from Amazon. It's organic and is on super sale right now. It's gotten pretty good reviews and I posted this somewhere else in baby bumps and got a comment from someone that has it and really likes it. It's also has an infant side and toddler side so you should be able to use it for a while.

DAE know how often one should feel the baby move? by mommygoodin BabyBumps

[–]lil_britches 2 points3 points ago

When your baby is going through a growth spurt they'll sleep more. I remember that around that time I noticed a sharp decrease in movements too. But now it's making up for that time with a vengeance! I wouldn't worry too much. You're little one is probably just sprouting up!
