Study shows that more than one-third of restaurant servers discriminate against African-American customers by rawbamaticin science

[–]lategame 14 points15 points ago

I have been a server for six years in several restaurants located in varying income per household.

White: The tippers: 21-55 year old's who appear middle class. If you give good service, you will see a 15-25 percent tip. Non tippers: Young kids, old people, 'white trash', the Sunday church crowd. You will still get something but usually between 10-15% Old church ladies will sit at your table for hours and tip you 1$ each.

Black: They don't tip, well... they do tip, but their tip is impossible to figure out as a percentage. I've had tables leave me $2 on $80, $3 on $50, $1 on 65, $5 on 50, etc. Here's the thing, these people truly believe they are "hooking you up" when they tip you. They don't understand the system, and if they do, they blatantly ignore it. Of course, there are exceptions to this but they are far and few between.

Asians: Hard to generalize. I've had Asian folks tip me terribly, however, I have also had them over-compensate me greatly. Asians are typically very easy to serve, which is probably why us servers don't hold grudges when we are tipped poorly.

Middle Eastern: In my experience, these people also tip terribly. They are usually incredibly picky eaters, too. I would argue they are just as frustrating to serve as black people. They are, however, much nicer.

Latino: Overall good tippers and very friendly.

In short: Blacks catch a lot of flack because they tip terribly and they are incredibly difficult customers. They are loud, whiny, blurt out there orders at random, complain about everything, and then they spit in your face (more or less) and try and make you feel like your getting "hooked up" for a $2 tip. If they were at least friendly/considerate, they wouldn't catch as much heat from all of us. But hey, that's just like... my opinion man. /endrant

Where has the competitive scene gone? by ojannenin counterstrike

[–]lategame 9 points10 points ago

1.6 is still doing okay in EU; however, the US scene is about dead. Source isn't doing a whole lot better. I've played 1.6 competitively for around 8 years (won esea open/cal open/esea main/went to CPL/etc. etc.) and there are certain factors that have attributed to its decline - which began, in my opinion, around the release of CS:S. Source split the community in two - on the pro/amateur/and casual level. Teams wanted to switch to Source because of the money involved, and financially, why wouldn't they? The game offered them an opportunity to make money, a lot of money, and fast. A then, state of the art engine (HL2) would require many gamers to upgrade their computers, purchase the new software, etc. Whereas, boring old 1.6 was not generating much profit. However, to this day, MOST 1.6 pros still hate Source, even if they did make the switch - and this has been the major problem with Source - a disproportionate amount of casual gamers who don't give a shit about watching tournaments/ going to LANs/ or competing in relation the few number of "pros" in the scene. The game is still seen as second rate (skill wise) to that of 1.6 in the community - hindering it from flourishing as the 1.6 players won't play it/watch it, either.

CS 1.6 was really the last 'big' game that relied strictly on game play for its success (no story/poor graphics/etc.) This has been an important factor in its decline because it limited the games gamer-base (influx vs. deflux of new gamers) in that, over time, the 'new' gamer has become more interested in stories, cinematics, graphics, etc. etc. They are not interested in 1.6 any more than you are interested in buying a Sega and playing one of the consoles classic games continuously.

SHORT: took an adderall and wrote too much. CS 1.6 is pretty much dead in the U.S. due to lack of sponsorship/tournament dollars/ Source still sucks/ ESEA is really the only league left in the online scene in USA.

You should really get an ESEA account. These days, ESEA is all that's left of the 1.6 community. It's $7/mo, however, they have their own voice servers, scrim servers, pug servers, etc. etc. It's not bad if you can get over all the trolling (and the fact that 99/100 guys will try to e-rape you via your profile if you play a lot and they find out you are a female).

These are actors people, they get paid a set amount to study a prompt and go on camera - the same way so many other basic television programs work.
