About having a simple wedding ring... by Ringpressure2xin TwoXChromosomes

[–]lamenta3 0 points1 point ago

So here's my personal observation about woman, weddings, and diamond engagement rings: the subject turns even the most otherwise rational, reasonable women into these materialistic, horrible harpy-monsters. It's not ALWAYS the case, and I'm rarely shocked or bothered when I get the "you have to get your man to buy you a real diamond" tripe from most women, but when I explained my satisfaction with a synthetic diamond (and my general opposition to buying an overvalued gemstone born of human exploitation) to my mother, she about pitched a fit! I'd never expected that from her, of all people, whom I expected to understand at least my economic reasons, if not my moral ones.

All that said, though, most people can't tell the difference between a $20 silver and CZ ring (like mine, which I love) and a $2000 diamond and white gold ring (which everyone thinks mine is unless I tell them otherwise).

Nice job. One question/comment, though--about the RAM installation, shouldn't you have installed them on channels 1 and 3 (the two white slots) instead of 1 and 2? I ask because in my experience, that's the standard configuration for 2 sticks, but I accept that it's possible the directions for your particular motherboard may have said differently.

Free or cheap things to do in Atlanta? by trainmaster611in Atlanta

Ah, that's right. I knew there were still a few around, but I'd forgotten about the whole Piedmont Park thing. This is why we can't have nice things.

Since it's summer I think both Piedmont Park and Georgia Tech still do free outdoor movies. They're usually older movies--already on DVD or new classics--but it's fun to pack a blanket or some lawn chairs and a picnic dinner.

Man, the 1.10 patch to FOREVER to come out, too. I think the bulk of my play time was spent on 1.08 and 1.09. 1.10, IIRC, was finally released right after I started university and I didn't have time to play like I used to.

I really feel the story is more intricate and fleshed out in D3 that it was in the previous games. I actually cared about the side stories of the NPCs, which I barely did in D2, and pretty much didn't at all in D1. I was a little jarred by a couple of oddly placed, interrupting cutscenes, but other than that, I think the story is pretty amazing.

I got downright giddy seeing bodies fly halfway across the level when they got smacked by a barbarian.

Just out of curiosity, does Diablo even run on Windows 7? I assume it would have to run in some kind of compatibility mode, but I haven't tried. It's been a REALLY long time since I've played through it, and my boyfriend never played it at all, and D3 is really making me go, "Huh, I think I remember that from Diablo but I really need to go back and pay more attention now."

It's kind of like watching "Star Wars: A New Hope" again after seeing the whole trilogy. :)

Diablo 3 - 30FPS cap no matter what settings are used? by Angryhobbitin Diablo

I believe I remember reading somewhere that on some video cards, setting the max framerate too high in the settings causes this. Try bumping it down to around 80 or 100 and see if you have the same problem.

Having difficulty finding an apartment. Any help for an out of state couple? by rxmxshin FortWorth

[–]lamenta3 0 points1 point ago

When I moved here, I discovered that en-suite W/D or even W/D connections are a huge rarity in rental units. All of the places I found in advance had neither, and I eventually gave up and walked into a realtor's office on my second day in town, and I was signing a lease on a place that had everything I wanted two days later.

I knew nothing about the area, either. I'd never set foot in Texas before in my life before moving here. I do strongly recommend getting in contact with a realtor in the area with your requirements. I can recommend the place I used, if you'd like. I was very happy with them.

If you live downtownish and work in SE Fort Worth near 820, your commute shouldn't ever be more than about 15 minutes unless there's a massive traffic crash since you'll be counter-commuting.

And I hear you on the suburbs.

West 7th/downtown area runs about $900-$1300/month for 700-1000 square feet. Some places are cheaper than others (I'm in 830 sq ft in downtown for $1200/month, but it includes cable, internet, and some other things), amenities vary, etc. Near Southside, which is just south of downtown (they're separated by I-30) is the sort of "Austin-y" neighborhood, and it might run a bit cheaper per square foot because a lot of the places for rent are small older houses.

I don't usually care for pictures of people's babies, but I will make an exception for this well-dressed young lady.

This was in my bathroom. It survived being rinsed down the drain with scalding water TWICE. For scale, it's about 2" long. I NOPE'd. by lamenta3in pics

It's a freaking huge cricket. I did throw it outside after it crawled up the drain a third time. Figured the thing deserved it...even if it is creepy as fuck.
