Black Country Subway advertise 'sandwich artist' apprenticeships for £2.60 p/h. by Kaylee__Fryein unitedkingdom

[–]lamby -3 points-2 points ago

If someone were working below the minimum wage they'd be worse off (monetarily) than they would be sat at home on benefits.

No doubt.

It's sad and depressing that simply to point to the basic economics of it is to invite instinctive condemnation from the hivemind. As if claiming the minimum wage is harmful is the equivalent of saying giving help of any kind is immoral. >.>

Gallium by xBlackfoxin pics

[–]lamby 4 points5 points ago

Today I was walking home when some guy bumps into me and instantly starts chatting shit to my face about gallium being the best metal. I tried to stay calm and explained to him that iron was actually the best metal, but he wouldn't take a hint. He started throwing around words like 'rust' and I lost it. Punched him right in his gallium loving face. I hate gallium so much.

[–]lamby -4 points-3 points ago

Ah, if but you believe in supply and demand then you must concede that having a minimum wage causes employment (as it clearly retards demand). Therefore, you must surely make the point that is better for, say, one person to be working at the minium wage and one to be unemployed, than it is for two to be working at a wage below the minimum wage.

I ask why the government should interfere, and you point to a piece of legislation.. >.>

Because otherwise employers will always pay at the lowest rate they can get away with

If that is so, why is anyone paid above the minimum wage?

If an employer is willing to provide a job at a certain wage, and an employee is willing to work for that rate, then why should the government, the media or your "conscious" interfere?

Seemingly added after my comment :)

However, speaking purely as a former member of the team who audit the copyright of prior to inclusion into the Debian operating system, I would really have to see a phrase allowing distribution of derivative works before I would count it as free. Or, you know, just say "it's GPLv2+/BSD/MIT/WTFPL" or even "I release this into the public domain" etc etc.

(Also there are probably trademark issues around the phrase "Prince Of Persia" and whoever owns that now)

Yes, it's all very lame, but do you really want to sued by Disney/EA/Ubisoft?
