IMPORTANT QUESTION: could the Doctor wield Mjolnir?

Three minutes into the film, Tony Stark has reverse-engineered the TARDIS and added time travel tech to the iron man suit.

Later on, Hulk grabs a Dalek and completely smashes the shit out of it.

My god, yes, I would watch this over and over again and never stop.

It's a person whose self-image is derived solely from the clothing they wear and the photo-sharing app that they use, so they have to flaunt these things in public in order to broadcast how unique and special they are because otherwise they would have no personality at all.

The "obscure music" aspect used to be a pretty big part of it but the competition to out-obscure each other finally hit critical mass and imploded, after the only way to be cool was to listen to music that literally didn't exist yet.

A "hipster" is someone who thought they were too cool for the endless popularity contest of high school but then engages in the same behaviour long after everyone else has grown up.

It's a really obscure unit of measurement; you probably haven't heard of it.

You really can't beat the classic design of the original 1932 Bergenström photoinductor. Such beautiful craftsmanship.

Best Scoreball Tactic Ever? by DBHOVin scoreball

[–]kyle90 1 point2 points ago

I see how they're forcing the defensive throwers to stay on the windward side of the fairway along with the backrunners, which is a pretty good advantage, but how are they not incurring a significant mass evasion penalty? Even if they're using the modified rules that allow for setting up a Wynfield play in the outfield pentagon loop?

Edit: oh duh, I see it now. The bus is actually facing towards the sun, so the front of it crosses the green line. They're lucky this game is being played in the afternoon instead of the morning; shadow rules would make this tactic pretty much useless!

In every thread about pet peeves, someone will inevitably post "people chewing with their mouth open", several people will respond to that with escalating levels of hatred, and then someone will link to the wikipedia article on misophonia, after which everyone will race to diagnose themselves with it. It's hard to tell which people are looking for attention and which people are actually afflicted with the disorder. When faced with a comment about feeling motivated to flay people alive for chewing with their mouths open, I concluded that this was likely an exaggeration. Which is all I was initially trying to point out.

If it was my suggestion that people were getting bent out of shape by "annoying sounds" that angered you, I apologize. Without understanding your specific experience it was easy for me to dismiss your reaction as irrational, which is unfair to you. I should have been more empathetic.

You've been asked to participate in the creation of a new government. How would you design it? by someawesomeguyin AskReddit

[–]kyle90 1 point2 points ago

Aggressive taxation is a feature of pretty much every developed country, and I think if you're smart enough to have your choice of where in the world you'd like to live, it ends up being less important than general quality of life. And those taxes are going towards things that make the country more livable. I'd definitely be offering research grants, etc., and I might give tax breaks to corporations who spend above a certain percentage of their profits on R&D that takes place in the country, encouraging them to build research facilities here. Post-secondary education would be highly subsidized. There would be a strong public school system with small class sizes and well-paid teachers, and funding would most certainly not be based on standardized test performance.

You've been asked to participate in the creation of a new government. How would you design it? by someawesomeguyin AskReddit

[–]kyle90 1 point2 points ago

I'd start with the Canadian Charter of Rights & Freedoms for a list of things that the government should be protecting, as a basis. I'd have local and regional governments with as few restrictions as possible for doing their own thing, with a federal government that's more for oversight. Definitely a progressive tax policy with a pretty high rate for the top bracket, like at least 50%. Nation-wide social safety net and socialized health care. A focus on infrastructure and scientific research spending; I'd want to make it attractive for the top minds worldwide to come and work in my country.

"Man, I just got my [driver's licence/health card/passport/other photo ID] renewed and my picture looks horrible, wanna see?"

And then you get them to show you theirs in return. Bonus points if you purposely tried to get a bad picture on your ID in order to do this.
