TROPHY CASE

Sore hips at night...sleeping tips needed! by sunflower23in BabyBumps

[–]ksemel 1 point2 points ago

I've had muscle spasms and a pinched nerve on my right hip for years from an injury and always slept with a pillow between my knees to reduce the extra stretch it gets overnight, even before pregnancy. I'm not sure yet how it'll go when I have a big bump too. :)

I have the sleep number bed and it really helps to be able to adjust the firmness depending on what my body is complaining about that night. Before that I used a mattress topper though, and that did help a lot too.

If you wake up sore, use ice on it. If you wake up stiff, use heat.

I'm 16 and just passed my driving test on the first try and got my license! by TheClerksWellin happy

Good job! Now drive safe!

When I got my license the test guy said, "Now remember, the car isn't a time machine. Just be late and safe." It really stuck with me.

Frugal Car Tires by Rokey76in Frugal

[–]ksemel -1 points0 points ago

I've had good luck using http://www.victoriatire.com/. Brands you've heard of at good prices.

I had to replace the rims on my decidedly un-frugal 2001 Eclipse when the stock rims were recalled and I paid about $800 for the tires and rims from these guys. I've reordered the same brand of tires (Nankang) for each nail-filled road experience and never had a tire issue that wasn't directly related to some crap in the road.

What "amazing fact" or colloquialism do you know is actually wrong, and you're sick of correcting people about it? by TestZeroin AskReddit

[–]ksemel 2 points3 points ago

Not because of lead pipes so much as because they would use lead cooking pots to boil down juices into syrup for sweetening food and drinks.

They used it in cosmetics too, so they were pretty much slathering their insides and outsides with lead-contaminated fluids and pastes every chance they got.

What is the worst advice you've ever received? by sophalopein AskReddit

[–]ksemel 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry but if someone has a dumb dreams that will lead them into poverty you absolutely should discourage them. Blowing smoke up someone's ass so you don't shatter their soft fuzzy reality rarely helps them in the long run.

If you go to college and study basket weaving because you think you can start a basket-weaving company and make millions someone should really be telling you that's a bad plan.

What is the worst advice you've ever received? by sophalopein AskReddit

[–]ksemel 252 points253 points ago

"Easily" should be taken to mean "more easily than someone with just a high school diploma in a field where education matters".

Plus, college doesn't benefit every field the same way, it really depends on what you go to college for. Doctors? Lawyers? Teachers? Scientists? Engineers? Yep!

People need to do a cost analysis on college versus what they plan to do with themselves. Maybe you don't need a 200k degree to work at a newspaper.

First time home buyer: Oil left in the tank by blackdragon8577in RealEstate

[–]ksemel 3 points4 points ago

If you're using a lawyer or realtor they should have mentioned it to you in advance. It should also be on the contract documents as part of your closing costs.

Before my closing the seller originally said she'd had the oil removed from the tank and gotten a refund from the delivery company. Which left me scrambling to GET oil. At the closing that ended up being crazy talk and I had to pull ~2k out of my magic money butt to pay for 400 gallons at the end too.

You'll need to buy oil at some point. It feels like a crisis but it's standard procedure really.

Suburban Mom Arrested and Abused for...Taking Pictures. Set politics aside and help her, Reddit. by svenskafishin WTF

[–]ksemel 3 points4 points ago

While I like that you've made assumptions about my sociopolitical opinions, let's get back to talking about this totally bullshit article.

Did you notice that this same bullshit article was submitted to reddit 8 times in the last 24 hours? It stinks of astroturfing, which is both aggravating and makes this whole thing looks like a shockingly poorly executed propaganda campaign.

Further research into the topic reveals this woman to be some kind of armed militia activist, which would be fine if her lawyers didn't spam out this bullshit article trying to make her out to be a victim and an angel.

Now it's super shady and I think she was out trying to stir some shit and succeeded, and now she's trying to exploit the system for money.

Suburban Mom Arrested and Abused for...Taking Pictures. Set politics aside and help her, Reddit. by svenskafishin WTF

[–]ksemel 7 points8 points ago

I'm actually amazed how there's no articles to be googled for this subject that aren't horribly biased in one direction or the other.

She's either a dutiful mother and innocent photography fan who was horribly abused by the police during a wrongful arrest, or she's an erratic right-wing gun-toting nutjob who was trying to uncover some FEMA-related conspiracy by breaking into a military base.

And an unseemly number of these articles are near-exact copies of the one written BY HER LAWYERS, including the one from OP.

Suburban Mom Arrested and Abused for...Taking Pictures. Set politics aside and help her, Reddit. by svenskafishin WTF

[–]ksemel 13 points14 points ago

This article is incredibly biased. Plus it leaves out the important fact that she had been stopped at least once before at the same location and was told not to take pictures. Oh, and that the location is a national guard base not just an airport.

This situation seems like she was looking for trouble. That she came back repeatedly after being told not to take pictures is actually suspicious. Legitimately suspicious instead of "help help I'm being repressed!".

It's really silly to stop for a quick picture at a location you have been asked not to photograph while you're carrying around a gun and a bunch of cash.

Time for my confession: I manage just over 100 websites and don't use any version control at all, I'd like this to change. by webdevnoobyin web_design

[–]ksemel 3 points4 points ago

Based on my current struggles with Mercurial, which are due almost entirely to wrangling a remote team inexperienced with version control, I would stick with SVN or Git for a whole team of beginners.

I'm not making a claim that they are better or worse, simply that there are drastically more visual tools and online tutorials for the other two systems and the ramp-up time can be much lower.

Got a "subpoena to provide evidence" from the sheriff today, what is it? by blackfusein explainlikeimfive

[–]ksemel 0 points1 point ago

I am telling you that is impossible AND illegal. It would also be considered entrapment if the prosecution or defense attempted it, and the judge would not permit them to answer such questions on the stand. Y'know, because it's illegal.

Your hypothetical situation shows a serious misunderstanding of the legal system.

Got a "subpoena to provide evidence" from the sheriff today, what is it? by blackfusein explainlikeimfive

[–]ksemel 3 points4 points ago

You can't be "tricked" into testifying against yourself. That is not how the legal system works.

If this was for some crime the OP was accused of the sheriff would have arrested him and brought him to an indictment hearing.
