Considering getting a second bunny, what should I expect? by jvogein Rabbits

[–]ksemel 2 points3 points ago

Be prepared for your sweet adorable bunny to transform into a vicious killing machine if you bring another bunny into their space without them meeting elsewhere a good number of times.

I was shocked how fast Loki attacked Jackie when she first came home and they had met twice at the shelter first. We had to put them both either in the tub or on my bed since those were the only places Loki hadn't already claimed.

They had separate cages until they both would just go into one any time it was open, about two months. They are inseparably buddies now. :)

You can use MD5('derpword') in place of the encrypted password if it's giving you trouble, that's sometimes how I'll reset a password for users.

Looking for a good Lasik/PRK/etc eye surgeon by artelopein nyc

[–]ksemel 1 point2 points ago

No complications, occasionally I have some dryness but nothing a drop or two doesn't solve. I found that drops with glycerine in them are the best for relief, I've been using Refresh Optive since the office gave me a sample and the were just lovely. Right after the surgery they'll have you get the individual serving size drops but I've moved onto the standard bottles now.

Halos lasted for a few weeks at least, very bad at first and I was really worried it wouldn't go away but every day it got a little better until it was better than when I wore contacts. It was only at night and around the light sources themselves. It was about a month before I could look at oncoming headlights or directly at a bright streetlight without feeling a significant twinge and that also faded bit by bit.

Looking for a good Lasik/PRK/etc eye surgeon by artelopein nyc

[–]ksemel 1 point2 points ago

I had mine done at Gotham Lasik an year and a half ago and I'm really happy with the results. The office staff are almost too nice, it can be a little unsettling after coming in from the subway to be greeted so cheerfully. They're not cheap but they have a crazy machine that does a 3D map of your eye surface so they can program the laser to do the optimum fixes. I paid $5500 for the fully-laser surgery (where they cut the flap with the laser too, worth it!)

The surgery was really easy and the discomfort was mostly from the little Clockwork Orange clamps they use to keep your eyes open during the actual lasering. It's all over in 5 minutes or less so it's not bad. I was really worried I would cough and move and ruin it all, but the machine tracks your eye movements like 600 times a second and adjusts for it. They say to keep looking at the dot but they don't tell you the dot goes fuzzy and splits into many dots when they pull back the flap. Stare where the dot was, just keep steady

Do your surgery in the afternoon or evening so you can go home and go right to bed. You NEED someone to take you home, you will not be able to go home unassisted. My eyes hurt SO much about 30 minutes after when the numbing drops wore off that I couldn't open them, and the streetlights were like burning lances of fire. My sweet boyfriend got yelled at for so much in our cab ride home but he was good about it. :)

I went right to sleep when I got home and woke up 4 hours later a little dry but otherwise fine. I could read a clock on the far side of the room when I couldn't read it on my nightstand before that. I had halos and light sensitivities a few weeks as I healed, and it mostly felt like I need to take out my contacts. But my vision tested at 20/15 the very next day so it's been awesome.

Warning. If you change your domain contact info, GoDaddy will not you allow to transfer the domain for 60 days. by martianspyin webdev

[–]ksemel 0 points1 point ago

I had this exact same problem. BUT when you add the domains by proxy account it screws up your account details. At minimum, you have to change your email just to turn it off and unlock your domain. Why turn it off unless you're transferring?

It's a trick, don't let them give you that bullshit. Call them, and tell them to verify your identity by other means, such as your credit card details.

They HAVE to let you transfer, but they WILL try to not allow it. They will make excuses, put you on hold and transfer you to a dial tone. Keep calling.

Need to upgrade Wordpress for new job---please advise! by gobsnotonboardin Wordpress

[–]ksemel 1 point2 points ago

I'm actually did this same upgrade on a ton of old blogs at work too, and the trouble I found was plugins. Wordpress itself goes from 2.9.2 to 3.3 flawlessly, assuming no one has edited the core files. Any changes in core files will be lost in the upgrade so this is a great time to get back to best practices and find the right way to make whatever modifications are needed. Backup your database and your files, and be prepared for a white screen from something.

Add this to your wp-config for debugging, it will create the debug.log file in your wp-content dir:

define('WP_DEBUG', true); // this line turns it on and off
if (WP_DEBUG) {
  define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true);
  define('WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false);
  @ini_set('display_errors',0);
  @ini_set('error_reporting', E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE );
  error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE);
}

Plugins are murder if they're a lot of them. My project had 40+ plugins installed, and I whittled it down to 6 before upgrading wordpress. Delete any inactive plugins and then upgrade the remaining ones one at a time. Read the change logs for each one so you can find the plugins that aren't going to support 3.3 before you actually push the button. Don't be afraid to remove plugins you don't need.

Hosting Requirements for a WordPress e-commerce site? by MatthewGallowayin Wordpress

[–]ksemel 2 points3 points ago

Wordpress 3.2+ requires PHP version 5.2.4 or greater and MySQL version 5.0 or greater.

I've done very small low traffic ecom sites ("small" ~ "a sale a day") with just shared hosting before, and it can be fine. It really depends on the host and how many accounts they pack onto shared hosting. You'll have add-on costs with most hosts in that case though, depending on what kind of payment processing you're going to use.

If you're going to process credit cards you NEED an SSL certificate, and to have a secure cert you need a static IP. You can get a decent deal on a secure cert from lot of resellers and have your host install it for you, they may charge an installation fee but it usually beats the price of buying a certificate through your host.

I primarily use Host Gator and I've had no complaints.

3.3 Sonny Theme Issues and Successes - Post them here. Especially Successes! by takethecann0lisin Wordpress

[–]ksemel 1 point2 points ago*

Yep, you're not crazy. It's definitely missing even in the default theme.

I found your solution. The file footer.php is missing the line that spits out the admin bar code:

<?php wp_footer(); ?>

Also, this theme has that TimThumb security issue you're going to want to address. I haven't had to fix that one so I don't have a quick solution. :)

Edit: Add that <?php wp_footer() ?> right before the closing body tag in that file, way down at the bottom.

Some Wordpress questions before I dive in to this community. by barenakedonein Wordpress

[–]ksemel 1 point2 points ago

I run a WP network for my dev sites and my personal blogs, and I use a customized version of the WordPress MU Domain Mapping plugin to basically run one install of wordpress for all my domains and subdomains.

How I have it set up is I have my "master" domain running multisite, then each individual blog in the network gets a subdomain on my master domain. Since I didn't want to use a wildcard subdomain, this needed some manual set up and some fancy coding to get it to go to my cpanel and generate the subdomains when I create a new site. However, that step can be done manually. This is probably not suitable if you want users to create blogs without admin work, but it's fine if you intend to create all the blogs on your own.

Some of my sites are running on subdomains (subdomain.bonsaibudget.com), and others have their own domain entirely like http://tinynoses.com/ and that's what the Domain Mapping plugin does. I park the second domain on top of the master domain and then the plugin handles the visible mapping.

They all use the same WP files and the same database. It takes some getting used to and some configuring but it's really quite nice. Any new projects I do I can create a dev site and there's no overhead to it.

The downside is that if I break one site in a significant enough way I can possible break them all. I would not host a paying client's prod site in my dev/personal network, but instead would have a separate network to host those clients.

3.3 Sonny Theme Issues and Successes - Post them here. Especially Successes! by takethecann0lisin Wordpress

[–]ksemel 0 points1 point ago

So far my only real issue is that my custom plugin removes the admin bar entirely so users wouldn't turn it on and then have it get cached on the front page (by our CDN)...then someone calls me in a panic.

Now we need the admin bar in the dashboard so I have to rework that a bit before I upgrade everyone.

What theme are you using? The admin bar code has a ton of actions and filters to remove it, just one little thing can break it.

So apparently I own a house and it's being sold today... What? by TrueGreyin RealEstate

[–]ksemel 4 points5 points ago

Rental property? Was it being rented out all this time too and there was rental income that needs investigation?

Is there anything going on with your parents or your uncle that they need the money? If someone in your family is unemployed or sick you may want to take this money that you didn't know you had and let your dad have it. Yes, it is yours but that means you can do what you want with it, even if that's to just to sign and move on.

Otherwise, just ask him what's up with this and if he's going to put your share in an account for your down payment. He's your dad, and unless he's been shady this whole time maybe it's just something he never thought about.

Buy an air filter! I have terrible asthma and my buns' hay sets me off so badly I use a filtered respirator to clean their cage.

I have two air filters and it makes a HUGE difference. I have this one by the buns: Honeywell HFD-130 Germicidal Tower Air Purifier with Permanent IFD Filter, and this one by my bed Sanyo Air Washer Air Purifier.

The bun-filter is a monster. It's nearly 2 feet tall and can be a bit loud on the higher settings, but it's got a washable filter inside. You would not believe the GUNK that comes out of this thing when I clean it. It keeps the dust from the hay down pretty well and provides white noise to keep the buns from flipping out over every passing car too.

The other filter I haven't had long enough to say if it's good or not, but it's fancy and quiet. It shoots out water from the top and has "odor detection". I say get the monster. :)

The NY lottery has a searchable database of the winning numbers back to 2008 with a frequency chart at the bottom of the page. It's only a matter of time before some stats-loving nerd cracks the secret of the lotto and wins more frequently than most other folks...which I assume is once.
