Much like Justin Bieber, the Kardashians and "Snooki", I never even heard about 9gag until people started obsessing over how horrible it was and how they had to murder their fiance/eat their parents/end a lifelong friendship because they found out someone goes there. I don't care, tons of websites post shit that has been around the web 80 times before.

I think he was pointing out that it's usually idiots in wifebeaters who think that dealing with animal control via "a boot up the ass" is going to get them anywhere. I get you on that point, but what I'm saying is there are going to be things that appear on both. They're both link aggregation sites, unless you see a watermark photoshopped out or know for a fact where it came from it's no more "their" content than it is "ours".

When viewed in that context and considering that everyone would have to check every other popular site before posting to ensure it never happened, it seems rather silly to me. Yes, it's uncool to copy original content without crediting the creator but that's not the case with most of these. It's a case of someone going "what the hell, I saw this on <other site>!"

Yeah I have, a few times. When religion isn't used as an excuse it's generally a variant of "It just isn't natural" or "I just find it to be gross and disturbing" and of course "How do we explain this to the kids?!"

Things like homophobia, greed, righteous anger.. they're not going to go away just because you get rid of organized religion. "God says no" is just a convenient excuse backed up by a really old book.

I think it's a side effect of growing up in that kind of environment. I grew up very poor and "if the bills are taken care of, we can rest easy for another day" is something very strongly ingrained in me. Aside from a loved one dying or something like that I can't say I have a bigger fear.
