Reading in the university library, when I leave for a moment and come back to find this. by koolaid252in atheism

Haha I have one, but I bought this book a few days before I bought the kindle...

Not fake, just infuriated to the point where I wasn't sure I could control myself. So, I went home and took the picture. I don't trust myself to make decisions like this when I'm that upset.

Before this happened, I would have never thought someone that goes to this school would be immature enough to do something like this. Yes, I didn't report it, but that's because I wanted to stay in control of the situation. I was hoping to talk to the person and give them a chance to make up for what they did, but then I found out there are no cameras where I was. I was told today that they only have them at the entrances/exits and places where expensive equipment is kept.

Regardless, I plan on taking other messages to relay my discontent to the student body.

I understand your doubt, I would be skeptical if someone else had posted it.

First, I took the picture at home, on my computer desk. I put it back in my backpack and left almost immediately after I found it. I posted the picture because I was infuriated, and needed to vent in some way. I made the decision to become an atheist about a month ago, and living where I do now I've found that we aren't very welcome.

I left the book by my backpack, like I have multiple times before with my other belonging for the past two year. I've never had a problem with this before.

I have no idea what the persons motives were, your guess is as good as mine.

I was in the library during a break I had in between classes. I attend a school in Michigan's upper peninsula, and it gets quite cold. The library is the best place to sit in a comfortable chair, and relax while I have the chance.

I wish there was some other way to prove it to you, but I don't think there is.

I was planning on it. I'll always have it as a reminder that religion really does poison everything.

Update: I talked to a friend that works for campus police and found out that there are no cameras near the place I was reading. So, there'e basically nothing I can do. I was hoping to find out who it was, and offer them a chance to replace the book and apologize. Instead of getting them expelled, I was hoping there was a small chance to make them a better person. So, now that I can't find the culprit, I'm going to talk to my friends that work for the school paper and hopefully get a story printed about this. Also, I'm going to post some sort of flyer with the picture of the book in multiple places all around campus.

On another note, I want to thank all of you for the support. I posted this because I was angry and had no other place to turn. I never expected it would blow up like this. I live in Michigan's upper peninsula, and the school I go to is a very conservative, sheltered place. It's nice to know that I always have a place to turn for support.

Also, I taped the book back together. I'll always have it as a reminder that religion really does poison anything.

I tried today, but I was hoping to give them the chance to pay me for the book and apologize. I found out there are no cameras where I was, so it wouldn't matter if I filed a report anyways.

This is true, I was hoping to calm myself down before I did something stupid. I talked to a friend that's a campus police officer, and we found out there are no cameras where I was sitting. I was hoping to at least call him/her out, and give them a chance to replace the book and apologize before it got them expelled.

I was infuriated at first, so I wanted to calm down before I did something stupid. I talked with a friend who is a campus police officer about what I could do. I found out there are no cameras anywhere near where I was sitting, and since I left the book there the university cannot be held liable for the property damage.

No cameras anywhere near where I was sitting. Nothing I could do, even if I wanted to. When I found the book I was infuriated, so I wanted to calm down before I did anything rash.

I tried today, there are no cameras where I was sitting. The lady I talked to actually seemed annoyed when I said it should be considered a hate crime.

I almost bought one today. I might be waiting just a tad bit longer....

Agreed, which is why I didn't report this to the campus police.

I spoke with someone at the front desk of the library, and the best he could do for me was tell me not to leave things unattended. I'm not to worried about reporting him. While I want to see him/her pay in someway(preferably the cost of the book), I don't want to ruin their life for it by reporting them to campus police. Getting them expelled/suspended would just ruin the future of someone who could potentially improve the world in some way or another.

Should I join American Atheists? by koolaid252in atheism

Alright, that would be amazing if I could get a discount.

I was hoping to start some sort of group at my school to help support any Atheists here. There is a sometimes overwhelming christian presence here, and I know from personal experience that they're are not always accepting.

I'm still thinking about, but being a poor college student is keeping my wallet pretty thin. I'm thinking I'll become a member once I get the money. I attend a super conservative college, and there are not many I can bounce my thoughts off of and I believe American Atheists could help with that. I also feel like I would like to be more involved in national affairs, and as I mentioned before my current location makes that slightly difficult.

I truly appreciate the information. It's nice to see your organization maintains a presence here.

Edit: Off/of confusion.

I agree. I don't see a point to the 35 dollars for me, and I believe I read it was a yearly fee. From what I've heard of the organization, they mean well. I just don't think it's a fit for me.

Especially with my limited budget(college student), I'm thinking that /r/atheism is the best option for me.

Thanks for the input.

Well, I'm short on money and it costs thirty five dollars to join. I'm wondering if there is anything being a member will provide that justifies becoming one.
