They *actually* exist! by cha0ticneutralin funny

[–]kkn27 0 points1 point ago

I don't think I'm the better person. I care enough to respond because the stupid red mail icon is annoying, but that doesn't mean I care a lot. You're full of yourself if you think this is anything more than a pointless internet argument, though we do get scored imaginary points based on how people who are bored enough to follow this very dead thread decide to perceive us.

You're really no different from the countless other people I'm debating with in pointless internet arguments on random forums and websites in topics ranging from music, books, games, philosophy, technology, dumb shit, TV, etc. You're full of yourself if you think you're the first to tell me "you're full of yourself" and "you obviously care" as if this is my first time talking to someone. Pick another topic and I'll gladly discuss that with you if you'd like for more imaginary points.

Also, I don't understand how trying to be cool and collected is a bad thing. Should a person not try to be calm and collected when they're talking to someone? Should I be going off on raging tangents that make no sense? Would you rather debate with someone who does this, even? I don't see what the point there is.

Sure buddy. That's not at all what I'd been explaining, but sure. You can win your imaginary internet argument with me if that makes you feel better now.

"What you just said" = giving me the definition of a term I used in my post, "not blatant". Of course I fucking agree with it when you're just saying in more words the exact same shit as I just said.

No I do not concede that my original post was "wrong" and nowhere in my post do I even give any indication of telling you you're "right". There is no right or wrong here. It's a damn difference of opinion/interpretation and you need to stop trying to "win" this argument.

You're really just repeating what I've said and agree with...

Yep, it's not blatant at all and very few people would see it this way, myself included, unless they had already been told by the author that it was true. The circumstances seem like more of a simple bromance between straight guys when read without Rowling's statement. My point is that Dumbledore didn't have to be super stereotypically flamboyant and wearing rainbows for him to be gay. He simply was. His sexuality was just never important and never affected his actions in the story because they had nothing to do with the story.

tl;dr: gaydar isn't a real thing and for all we know every character who didn't confirm their sexuality in the story could potentially be gay because gay people wouldn't automatically act differently.

They *actually* exist! by cha0ticneutralin funny

[–]kkn27 4 points5 points ago

Who's to say that he wasn't gay before she said anything about it? If you really look for it and had to decide on his sexuality, you'd probably come to the conclusion that he's gay because of his past with that other wizard dude whose name I can't remember when he was living in Godric's Hollow.

It's like how few people knew that Renly in Game of Thrones was gay for sure until the TV scene. If you really look for it in the books, it's there to indicate his sexuality, though admittedly it's quite clear if you go in and look for it in the text, unlike in HP.

Also, it's her book and lore. I feel that she should be able to add to it as she pleases as long as she's consistent.

Something I do not agree with Tywin on. (Ep. 2.07 Spoiler) by sjb_7in gameofthrones

This is true. I transcribed part of it in another post in this thread.

Funny, because I'd literally just read the part yesterday while on the crapper. Here you are, take from it what you will:

Book Spoiler

All of this is preceded by even more of Cersei pining for her lost love. This is just at the end of the chapter.

I've never thought of that particular parallel.

It saddens me that these two are quite literally at opposite corners of the world right now by fizziebobin gameofthrones

[–]kkn27 11 points12 points ago

They'd be at opposite poles actually. If you take a flattened map of Earth, the top and bottom are not near each other at all when you roll it into globe form.

Got bored during class so I decided to draw my favorite character, Arya Stark (not finished) by Dizzzzzin gameofthrones

[–]kkn27 4 points5 points ago

By naming her your favorite character in a public forum, you just made it 10x more likely for the writers to kill her off.

(Spoilers all) About Jaime... by printeriscomingin asoiaf

[–]kkn27 1 point2 points ago

At this point in the book, he really is just a killing machine. The last big scene with him in it involved him severely f***ing up Ned and Jory outside the brothel.

Jaime's transformation from a monster into a sympathetic character is one of the best part of the books. David Benioff would of course portray Jaime as a monster at this point to all of the TV audience. It makes his transformation in the end all the more satisfying.

Book readers will somehow say it's going too far when really, Jaime has done far worse (ie. attempted murder of a young boy by throwing him out of a window and screwing his sister, the King's wife, and having 3 illegitimate children with her.) I personally have no problem with him killing his former squire and it was a good, unexpected scene.

(Spoiler All) Something I don't understand about Lysa. by FAFASGRin asoiaf

[–]kkn27 8 points9 points ago

This really only works if you're as cunty and paranoid a bitch as Lysa is though and deny your sister the support of her home in the ensuing fight.

I was so damn happy when Lysa died. Such a stupid, stupid woman who really fucked up all of Westeros because of her lack of foresight.

Does anyone else find the Pledge of Allegiance to be kinda creepy? by chakalakaspin politics

[–]kkn27 11 points12 points ago

Nationalism was a very dangerous force in human history.

Nothing is wrong with pledging loyalty to your country, but doing it from an age when you don't understand what a pledge is or what the concept of loyalty means it's essentially just propaganda.

Ned Stark; a thought experiment (spoilers all) by holybatnipplesin asoiaf

[–]kkn27 0 points1 point ago

The Lannisters would have Arya (she wouldn't have needed to run and SYRIO WOULD BE ALIVE) and Sansa as hostages. I feel that the Starks would not likely rally the North against Joffrey for just the two girls, as Ned's death is the real kicker that causes all the fighting. They would also be unable to back Stannis in this case.

I could see the North instead heeding the call from the Night's Watch and defending the wall from Mance's attack, meaning Stannis would probably continue against KL and ultimately fail.

Ned would be Lord Commander of the NW and find some way to screw Jon out of knowing who his mother is again once again. "You're a brother of the NW, you have no other family."

Joffrey would ultimately find some other way to fuck up his rule and be ousted from power. Littlefinger would need something to do, at least.
