Reddit definitely seemed like the best place to go to test the water...Would anyone be interested in starting a Secular Student Alliance here at Hopkins? by Subterfugerin jhu

[–]kingcarlo 0 points1 point ago

To join, all you have to do is attend meetings. They are every Monday and I believe they start at 7 (we won't be having any more until fall semester). If you are also interested in philosophy and would like to be a reader for the journal, there is a one credit course every spring that you can join where all we do is read the entries. Hope this helps.

Your analogy is bad and you should feel bad. htimko is completely correct, taking steroids does not automatically make one huge. The person still has to put in hours of work in the gym every week. Your analogy creates a scenario where a person is forging information which in turn can hurt others. Taking steroids hurts nobody (except maybe the user) and allows the user to reach a level of fitness not possible for natural body builders. Here's a documentary that can give some insight into steroids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8kExGzZfuM

Just so you (and anyone else) knows, Prometheus is still very active. We have meetings every week on different philosophical issues, and we also publish a philosophy journal every year. The 2011 issue was delayed, but it is currently printing and will be distributed once they are delivered. The 2012 edition should be ready for next semester.

During my high school years, I was an Investigative Aide for the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco of Florida (meaning I busted stores and bars for selling alcohol and cigarettes to minors). AMA. by reyvehnin IAmA

You guys are discussing two different things. Law Enforcement agents, especially undercover ones, are allowed to lie. This is not "corruption", it is totally legal. On the other hand, you said you were not working with cops but rather some alcohol bureau? In any event, not only were you not a law enforcement officer, you were also specifically TRYING to find places that sold alcohol to minors. They told you not to lie because that's the policy for their drink busting, but that policy is not connected to the policy on lying for law enforcement agents.

Bodypart split -- opinions? by kakumeimaruin Fitness

Personally, I've seen good results with this split (back/bis Mon, Chest/Tris Wed, Legs Wed). This kind of routine can take up a lot of time if you are doing it every 3 days. That being said, I personally feel this split allows you to focus on each muscle group more so than just doing big lifts (like in mad cows 5x5). In reference to what your trainer did, my general rule would be 4 exercises per each body part. I also did a lot of compound lifts (barbell rows, lat pulldowns) but supplemented them with more isolation on the arms (bicep curls, hammer curls). I did a similar thing with chest (bench press, incline flys) and than supplemented focused triceps (rope throw, skull crushers). If you are interested in any of this, I have the workout routine I made, you can check it here. It gave some pretty awesome results, but again, this is all from my personal experience.

White House petition: "Grant voters the ability to vote for the President of the United States by dissolving the electoral college." by sautein politics

Al Gore losing Florida is a whole different issue that you should actually blame on the supreme court of the US. The fact is, direct democracies for a candidate could easily allow some crazy candidate be partial to one specific group. All the candidate has to do is tap in to some group that may be more than 51% of the population and promise them some sort of benefit for voting for him. An example might be a candidate saying that if elected, all white people will not have to pay taxes. This absurd example is just to showcase that a candidate with this claim could surely get over 50% of the population to vote for him (~72% is white in America) just on the basis that they benefit from voting for that candidate. With the electoral college, the candidate can't just win over people, he has to win over states. Discriminating against other races would surely not work in states that have heavy populations of other races, thus the candidate would lose with not enough states. That's the idea behind the electoral college </speech>

With an electoral college, winning states is important, which means that a candidate must be able to win over businessmen in big cities as well as regular folks in small towns. The electoral college allows for our candidates to be more moderate. Without the college, you have a direct democracy vote. What that means is that if per chance a presidential candidate runs on the platform that anyone living in a city doesn't have to pay taxes, that candidate could potentially get elected because he is favoring those people in the city. Of course this example seems ridiculous, but with a direct democracy there is nothing stopping those 51% of voters voting for someone that will fuck others over. The idea is the electoral college at least HELPS remedy this problem.
