It's insanely hard to make your way in a creative field. Add only taking jobs you'd like to take onto employment filters and you can go ahead and find a different career.

Anywhere near Bennington? I'm off 7 in NY and ride my guy through there sometimes when I feel like my ride needs a Revolutionary War monument thrown in the mix.

What is the most bizzare thing that has happened to you involving a homeless person? by ketchupsidein AskReddit

[–]katiecrimespree 3 points4 points ago

Not so much bizarre but kind of hilarious... used to pass this one guy every day on the way to work. After a while I started buying him coffees, and hanging for a bit because he was hilarious. One day he gets all serious and asks me why I wear the same clothes everyday (which I pretty much did). I died, a homeless guy made fun of me for not changing my clothes enough.

There was another lady who I'd see around my enighborhood a lot, and we'd always chat for a minute. I moved away and saw her maybe a year later during a visit. First thing out of her mouth was that I got fat.

I am doing something very right or very wrong with all the insults I'm raking in from the homeless population.

I'd rather have a $100 ring and put $9,900 towards old Nintendo games. Oh what the hell, no ring and $10,000 in Nintendo games. Hey, getting pretend married was actually fun!

Edit: getting pretend married was so fun I threw some random letters around

Ha, pretty much. An entire industry based off of the question"You know what would be AWESOME?!?"

I hear you. The comic industry in particular is exceptionally frustrating. There are certainly some gems out there, but companies like money, and buyers seem to want to give their money to the same product/different package month after month. You'd have better luck drawing mustaches onto an X-men book and replacing the title than trying something new.

It's funny, because on the flip side, the traditionally snobby fine arts world has been pretty damn accepting of comic tendencies.

Hey there, Jakob-- brace yourself for a long winded answer! In regards to where I see myself in the fine art world vs. the comic world, it's really a volatile position. I tend to define that based on a specific piece rather than my body of work as a whole, and within that piece I define it by what its purpose is.

I do unadulterated comic work (ex.) which is easy enough to label. I consider my illustration pieces work that I make which does not necessarily go past the surface layer, which is purely imagery I find interesting in some respect, or imagery which is describing a specific event. Pieces that I draw which have deeper layers of meaning and that go past the image itself, these are what I consider my fine art to be. Of course, there's even comics I've done (ex.) which I would consider sequential fine art.

The borders between illustration and comics and fine art are also blurring more and more as time goes on, based off of what' I've seen in galleries and what galleries they happen to be.

So in answer to your question, enjoy my "not at all an answer".
