NIce setup. Get some smaller foot holds if you want some challenge.

Make your own personal cloud service: Mediagoblin might even be better than Owncloud by jollybobbyrogerin software

Info here
Easiest would be amazon EC2, but if you want it on your own box you need a web-server. Ubuntu server comes with preconfigured apache, mysql and php (LAMP). Use DynDNS to make sure that your dynamic IP address is always accessible through a fixed host name.

apt-get and yum.... where are the lists? by SeattleShmucksin linux

[–]jollybobbyroger 0 points1 point ago

Oh - sorry. I realized that you said you're using Fedora. I'm leaving the post in case you switch to a debian based distro. Some of the points should translate to Fedora though..

apt-get and yum.... where are the lists? by SeattleShmucksin linux

if you want to search for packages, do: sudo apt-cache search whatever-you're-looking-for
If you want to browse, install synaptic (sudo apt-get install synaptic) - run it and you'll get a great GUI frontend for apt which displays all the packages available.
Remember that you should always refresh your repository list before you install (sudo apt-get update)
Also remember that you can hit tab midways through typing a string. If nothing happens, hit it twice and you'll see all the possible packages that begins with whatever you typed.
Good luck and have fun!

New NVIDIA driver release supports xrandr (finally) by bitchessuckin linux

[–]jollybobbyroger 0 points1 point ago

I managed to do it by GUI: The Nvidia X Server Settings and I rotated my right screen with the KDE system settings for my display/monitor.
I have an exam in four days and no time to learn x server and I did want xrandr working, so the GUI was a really great way to get it done.

I almost feel like linking to an annoying animated gif that displays someone showing tremendous excitement..
But really: I was so happy to see this. I thought I had to wait for Wayland to get GPU acceleration for my dualscreen portrait/landscape mode.

I'm about to go from Windows to Xubuntu 12.04. I've 4 x 2TB hard drives on the way. I'm keen to play around with RAID, does reddit have any advise? by Something_Witty_in linux

Why should that stop him from experimenting with zfs? IMHO it's the coolest thing available with regards to multidisk filesystems.

Depending on how much RAM you have, you might want to try zfs with one of the BSD distros. FreeNAS springs to mind.

Started using Ubuntu for the first time. What are some basic things I should NOT do? by zomgdavidbowiein linux

[–]jollybobbyroger 2 points3 points ago

A basic thing not to do:
Don't dual boot.
Seriously though, you need to check out ubuntu pocket guide. Great read that'll give you the basic intro to Ubuntu/Linux.

GTA: Mumbai. Yes, please. by machamboin gaming

This is actually an amazing idea. This would just work on so many levels stylistically. It would be such a fresh new perspective on the series, which IMHO hasn't really changed that much stylistically since Vice City.
That would actually be a title that would make me want to play a video game again.

I went to Tonsai Beach, Thailand last year. Here are some pictures I took. [album] by obitechnobiin climbing

Yes, I know. My favorite route on Ton Sai was one named "Babes in Thailand" and the climber in the 5th picture seemed to be on that route. I wanted to ask if you knew, since I'd like to check if my able to read and remember that route from just a picture..
..or am I completely off?
