First thing to do is get yourself back on the golden path with DOS: don't click here and download DOS 7, from there you can upgrade to DOS 8, which is even better than Windows. Now, if you want to improve on DOS 8, you need OS/3, which is only available to leet haxers, so you'll have to prove yourself first by providing AOL accounts. Noob.

It may be silly, but I'd be curious to know the results of which dhclient and file dhclient on each, and a diff -q of them, performed on the box upon which dhclient works as expected.

If you do this, take care not to overwrite the destination dhclient when copying it over for the diff. Not that I've ever done anything so silly, no siree bob, not me.

I don't understand rx'ing that error message upon running dhclient. Isn't dhclient a binary, more-or-less straight from ISC? What is your dhclient that executes, on each box?

And I hate to ask, but do you have isc-dhcp-client (4.1.ESV-R4-0ubuntu5 I think? ) and isc-dhcp-common ?

See, I was thinking if it works on desktop but not server, you've got different packages maybe. And maybe the one on server is a shell placeholder of sorts?

The '{}' sometimes works, sometimes don't; depends on your xargs. It's wonderful when it does. My experience with its failure is that a boatload goes to 2, and nothing 'happens', so to speak. This is my cue to stop typing more and start thinking more because I was counting on something to support me, so to speak. In retrospect perhaps not the best choice in the instant case.

The echo puts it into sanity-check mode, by substituting all vars and displaying but not acting upon the command?

(Is there a missing $ at the head of myfinddirs/ in your final line, or am I cornfused?)
