USB Wireless support on the Pi by mistawacin raspberry_pi

[–]jfedor 2 points3 points ago

Keep in mind some wifi dongles require a powered USB hub as the Pi doesn't provide enough power for them (TL-WN722N for example).

I assume this is 100 mm x 100 mm. Your TV probably has 200 mm x 200 mm holes (at least).

Yeah, this verdict is about patents though and has nothing to do with that.

Raspberry Pi, meet your competition - a reference design available right now, worldwide. by Sailerin raspberry_pi

[–]jfedor 0 points1 point ago

I got one shipped to me from RS Components for less than that, tax included (I'm not sure which country's tax rate they used, but it was either 20% or 23%).

So? It's not like this VIA board will ship for free and be exempt from tax.

I take it you've never done any web development.

[–]jfedor 1 point2 points ago

True. It would be even greater if none of them were IE.

[–]jfedor 5 points6 points ago

I don't know what you mean, it is a very important metric if you're a web developer or web designer. Obviously the most popular browser isn't automatically "best" (whatever that means), but nobody claims that it is. (I mean, I do claim Chrome is best, but not because it's most popular.)

Where to order from the United States? by Kirixin raspberry_pi

[–]jfedor 3 points4 points ago

There are exactly two distributors, RS Components and Farnell. They are known under different names around the globe, RS is Allied Electronics in the US, Farnell is Newark. Neither will sell you a Raspberry Pi in "a relatively short amount of time", as they're still dealing with the backlog.

Epic Games Has Seen PS4/Xbox 720 In Specs, They’re Not Powerful Enough by mehgandavidin gamernews

There is nothing new here, this is all pure speculation. Those are the same quotes that accompanied the Unreal Engine 4 screenshots, wrapped in some link-baity blogspam.

Evolution removed from Korean Science textbooks because of Christian petitions. by totallybananain science

[–]jfedor 26 points27 points ago

Currently, I see in Germany, but also in the United States, a somewhat fierce debate raging between so-called “creationism” and evolutionism, presented as though they were mutually exclusive alternatives: those who believe in the Creator would not be able to conceive of evolution, and those who instead support evolution would have to exclude God. This antithesis is absurd because, on the one hand, there are so many scientific proofs in favour of evolution which appears to be a reality we can see and which enriches our knowledge of life and being as such. But on the other, the doctrine of evolution does not answer every query, especially the great philosophical question: where does everything come from? And how did everything start which ultimately led to man? I believe this is of the utmost importance.

That's not a kickstand, that's the Samsung logo taped over (don't know why). It's clearly a Galaxy Nexus.
