Is the Lifetime Grad Association worth it? by Gizmeowin ucla
[–]jevex 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago
Currently, degree-holders and retirees are eligible for Lifetime Email Forwarding. However, as UCLA is migrating to using Google Apps as the provider for email services, alumni and retirees can choose Google Apps starting fall 2012.
Given the choice, would you have attended Cal? by freelightsin ucla

CSD-Guest and UCLAWLAN are open networks which have signal near the Kleinrock Internet History Center in Boelter. The Senior Gift from this year's graduating engineering class will be funding for improving the wifi infrastructure in Boelter. With respect to cell signal, Boelter's construction materials essentially make it into a Faraday cage. Not much that can be done about it at this point.
Made this funny picture website as part of my AI class by harrysphotterin ucla

Upper-division courses (3rd and 4th year, usually) are numbered in 100. Lower-division courses are numbered below 100. Graduate-level courses are 200 and above.
I'm a fourth-year currently enrolled in the AI course.
Edit: You can see the courses here.

Can you explain why the link was posted with extremely similar titles by four different users (each only one day old) in five different subreddits? This is especially suspicious since four of the five submissions claim that it was created for an AI class at that particular school.

Also UCLA and UC Berkeley. Seems like advertising to me.
[–]jevex 2 points3 points4 points 4 days ago
What class is this, exactly? CS 161 is concentrating primarily on NLP this quarter whereas the description makes it seem more like a Bayes recommendation engine...
I'm just wondering because I've seen this posted to a number of different college reddits and it seems like advertising.

Enable SSL in settings by Bjeaurnin ideasfortheadmins

I actually agree that SSL is really important. You'll find that pretty much everyone agrees there. It just doesn't seem to be a very high priority for the reddit employees to implement in comparison to other features/improvements.

I have reversed the UCI colors. (I wasn't sure with most schools which color is usually foreground and background, so I guessed.)

I've used several prepaid credit cards which have all let me set an address using the issuer website. It's a very cumbersome solution, but it works.

UCLAWLAN was not ever reachable from any point on campus. Various networks were broadcast with the SSID UCLAWLAN, the same ones that are shown on the BOL map. The blue buildings were run by CTS (Communications Technology Services, which has now become IT Services) while green buildings were operated by individual departments.
In Boelter, UCLAWLAN is operated by SEASnet. In other buildings, UCLAWLAN is operated by other departments.
Because each of these networks are operated by different departments, they tend to have different configurations. This is one of the reasons that the networks run by IT Services have been renamed.
According to the link you posted, UCLA_WEB, UCLA_WIFI, and eduroam are available in Engineering V, not Boelter. This corresponds with the color indications on the BOL map. The access points broadcasting UCLAWLAN SSID in Boelter are managed by SEASnet and do not have the same configuration as UCLA_WEB, UCLA_WIFI, or eduroam.
If you're seeing UCLA_WEB, UCLA_WIFI, or eduroam in Boetler, you're most likely picking up signal from Math Sciences, CENS, or South Campus Student Center, depending on where you are in the building.
Part of the move away from using UCLAWLAN as a campus SSID is to distinguish the networks run by UCLA IT Services (UCLA_WEB, UCLA_WIFI, eduroam) from networks run by other departments. Previously, UCLAWLAN was used as the SSID for both, leading to confusion as to whether web-authentication or VPN was required/available.
(It's part of my job to know this information.)

There are no access points for UCLA_WEB, UCLA_WIFI, or eduroam in Boelter. You can see the locations of those networks on the map; buildings shown in blue have access points for UCLA_WEB, UCLA_WIFI, and eduroam while buildings in green have coverage provided by individual departments. Buildings not colored blue or green have no wireless coverage.

Same issue as with OA flair; I'll need some appropriately-sized images. All the flair images right now are 24px tall.

No pictures trying to show off what collection of albums you bought or own or will own and anything along this line.
That is one of the suggested rules that I referenced. This suggestion is not multi-part. As I said previously, I have no vested interested in any specific rule. The only reason this rule is here is because it was suggested and upvoted.
