Help: Psychopath or Sociopath? by [deleted]in psychology

[–]jasp1132 0 points1 point ago

Hey,

Well, you are correct in that a lot of disorders are genetic. The environment plays a big role in how we develop but we cant control every single aspect of how our children grow up. Sometime genetic components are just more influential than others.

The environment that we grow up in absolutely part of a cause. All we can do is provide a good environment for our children but we will never be truly able to predict which environment is the best. You are a smart person for providing a nurturing and supporting environment for your children, which is the best that we can do.

To answer your question. Yes the environment plays a role in our children's development. However, we cannot predict how the environment will interact with our genetic components to a full degree.

Hope that helped.

Here is a link to what we classify as Antisocial personality disorder (psychopath/sociopath).

http://www.dsm5.org/ProposedRevisions/Pages/proposedrevision.aspx?rid=16

I dont know if your dad truly fits this criteria. I would also disagree with LTiberious, it doesnt sound like schizophrenia.

my qualifications: Ph.D in I/O psychology, but i have taught personality disorders before.

Thats one of the reasons why i uninstalled the app. It was slower for me to wait for the wifi to reconnect before the phone would open compared to me just typing in my code. Its a great idea but i dont think it works as well as planned.

Any tips for taking the NYC Child Protective Specialist exam? by huntrlifein nyc

[–]jasp1132 0 points1 point ago

oh yes! totally forgot to mention that. At the end of the interview they had us do a drug test.

So yeah, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to detox.

I cant really remember all of the details since this was about 4 years ago.

I remember signing up for the test, buying the books, and just studying every day. Then i took the test and a short while after they asked me to come in for an interview.

The interview process is a day long event. Most of it you spend sitting around. I think it was a first come first serve kind of deal so you you're the first person in line you may actually end like 30 min earlier. Anyway, you fill out a bunch of paperwork and wait some more. A person showed us a video that was useless. Then the interview actually happened. It was a straight forward structured interview, they had 2 people ask me pretty standard interview questions (tell me a time when you felt anxious but you resolved it). I dont actually remember them asking me anything about the job.

After the interview they had us wait in a room. A supervisor level person came in and talked about the job a bit, kinda gave his accounts of his experiences. Really made you think twice about doing the job. And after that it was over.

A year later i got a letter that said i was hired by the city. Too bad at that time i made different life choices. haha. couldnt wait a year for a job.

hey. I took the test a while ago.

I studied by looking at this book. http://www.amazon.com/Helping-Child-Protective-Services-Competency-Based/dp/0195161904/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329863697&sr=8-1

There was another book i had but i cant recall what it was.

The test wasnt difficult per se. If i remember correctly it had a lot of questions that i thought were common sense. Some questions did pertain to information from the that book. Almost all of the questions were in scenario form.

I am also pretty sure that there is a class about this stuff. I remember some people talking about it.

This book was definitely not enough, even though i passed the test. I didnt get a response from the city for a year so i think i didnt get a perfect score.

Friendly tip, next time try putting the cut basil after the pizza is done. The warm cheese will warm up the basil just enough to release the aromas.

You're part blind! Proof? by [deleted]in WTF

[–]jasp1132 1 point2 points ago

Everyone has a blind spot in their eye. Our optic nerve is where the retina connects to the brain, there are no photoreceptors in that area. Since there are no photoreceptors there is no vision. Luckily, we have two eyes which help compensate for that.
