TROPHY CASE

Reddit, how unsafe is Detroit? by Iwant2bethe1percentin AskReddit

[–]jasenlee 2 points3 points ago

Check out this crime map of Detroit for the last 2 months. After scrolling past the map you'll see that the first page of the table data only goes back a week and all but one of the crimes shown is a shooting.

Because despite what some people might think I don't think military weapons (that's what this is) should be paraded around for funsies or driving in a civilian environment unless there is clear and present danger. I don't like people walking around with AK-47's for our "protection" and I don't like the normalization of any behavior by the military which inches us one step closer to a police state. It's inappropriate.

It's the same reason I don't like the Chicago Air and Water show. People show up to watch all the fun acrobatics of planes doing their dive bombs and stuff and all I can think of is "hey... Look at that million dollar weapon that is used to kill people".

Don't get me wrong. I'm a realist, I'm not anti-military but I don't think we should parade around weapons just like I don't think you should keep a gun unlocked in a drawer at home with children playing about.

I do work in Detroit from time to time and in those unfortunate moments where I find myself downtown towards the latter part of the evening I don't stop for lights. I drive right fucking through them only slowing if I see another occasional car that I would otherwise hit.

You ask if Detroit is like a Third World country? It's worse than that. I've been to Third World countries where I felt 100 times safer than in Detroit.

Um... Why the fuck are military vehicles just driving down the street? Not cool.

Something important that you should all keep in mind. by SilvereXin redditisland

[–]jasenlee 2 points3 points ago

You complain that people have no focus but you are doing exactly what others in the past have done. Your starting all over and going in another direction on a topic that has been discussed many times before. People have to started to collect their thoughts in one place like the wiki rather than serial threads no one will see in a weeks time. I would suggest that you go to the wiki and start to build, modify and create new work in that place. Doing that will help bring more focus to a project like this.

Some discussion of this is on the wiki here and here.

You just named more than half the country. And your tone sounds like someone who is spitting the words out of their mouth like yesterdays trash.

Have you ever caused someone to lose their job? by CourtOfMiraclesin AskReddit

[–]jasenlee -8 points-7 points ago

So someone who worked a low paying job was stealing food and you wonder what happened? Did you ever wonder why she was stealing the food? I'm guessing it's not because she was selling it on the lucrative cold cut black market. She was probably eating it. People who steal food are usually doing it because they are hungry. So if I understand the situation correctly you helped a hungry person who wasn't stealing from the till but taking food lose their job probably putting them in a worse situation. Is that correct?

Me and my awesome new boyfriend... I met him at the last /gaymer meetup. Thanks, jasonlee! by DaveQatin gaymers

Part of the reason I love these meetups is because of stories like this. So many positive things come from them. Congratulations gentlemen.

BTW, I should also mention to others who were at the last big one in Feb that yesterday I got a really nice hand-written card from the guy who runs The Trevor Project. They were so grateful for all the money we donated. Thanks to all of you a lot of LGBT youth will receive continued support. I'll post a pic later if anyone is interested.

Again, congrats gentlemen. I hope to see you in June.

Staffing Agency wants me to fill out several forms prior to any employment offers, let alone the interview. Should I do it? Interview with Staffing agent has been scheduled. by ElMiguelEppsin jobs

[–]jasenlee 1 point2 points ago

Are you trying not to get a job? Staffing agencies send you to multiple places. They are trying to save you and them time by filling out the forms once rather than doing it for every potential job you probably won't be hired for.

No, but if you are making a joke to someone who does it as a profession it should probably be funny.

My 92 year-old Polish grandma is terminally ill - she loves getting cards and her birthday is coming up. Can I get a bunch of awesome Redditors to send her a card to cheer her up? by descartedin self

[–]jasenlee 0 points1 point ago

I'm certain they can but what fun is that? Grandma is older and that generation probably appreciates letters more than email. Letters and cards she can put in a box or hold in her hands. It's probably more satisfying for her and it shows you put some effort into it.

Emailing is no fun for grandma. It takes so little effort. Send the woman a card and brighten her day.
