Have you ever tried to brake bicycle from 30-40 mph? It is a very difficult vehicle to maneuver.

Driving bicycle on a highway should be an obligatory part of driving school. That would help people realize that passing a bike too close resembles threatening with a deadly weapon. Also, some drivers seem to feel entitled to punish bicycle drivers for drifting too much left by putting their lives at risk. But mostly it is just ignorance. Btw, my personal experience is that 90 percent of the time there's a female driver who scares the shit out of me by making a dangerous pass, turning suddenly right in front of me, entering the highway behind a stop sign.

Not sure why you are being downvoted. Maybe Reddit is nowadays infested with pampered neckbeard hipsters. Lack of empathy in these comments is appalling.

Exactly, everyone I know who has moved from Europe to the US has gained weight 10-20kg in a couple of years. Heck, every time I visit the US I tend to gain a kilogram per week because I have no choice but eat out every day. And the restaurant food ... I don't even know where to start, I'll let someone else continue from here.

I've carried just the iPad and a smartphone since September, both for private and business travel. For only one out of maybe twenty trips, I decided to take the laptop with me because I hadn't been able to prepare my presentations at home before the trip. Apart from that, I've been quite ok with the iPad.

Are you eating enough? If you've lost a lot of weight, you may have gained a habit of eating not-quite-enough. And, the next time you're feeling cold, try a cup of tea. Seriously.

This is how migraine looks like [pic] by fwiigin pics

Ok, here's some advice. I've suffered from migraines for 25 years, and this is how I can help myself.

From the beginning of visual distortions phase, I have a 30-minute window to get medication. When I take 400 mg of ibuprofen (preferably in a liquid form, in a capsule), I can avoid the headache part of the show. 50 mg of ketoprofen also does the trick. And obviously, the real migraine drugs but I don't need those anymore since these over-the-counter drugs are good enough.

Paracetamol helps by making the pain duller but doesn't really take it away. Acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin) induces vomiting and generally just makes me feel worse.

And finally: See a doctor. There are really good prescription drugs to fight migraine.

Whenever I drink wine I get this sharp pain in my ear canal and it shoots down to the back of my jaw. It usually lasts for about 30 minutes. Does anyone know what causes this? by beeUnitin science

You should also ask your dentist to take an x-ray of your molars. A latent inflammation might cause your symptoms, including the high white blood cell count.

I've had a La Pavoni for 10 years. It's a very good machine which can be easily serviced and spare parts are well available. Costs about $500 - $1000, depending how shiny you want it to be. I would also recommend getting a separate grinder.

And obviously, if you want to take a more convenient route, go for a Nespresso machine. Choose one which has a heating element for the cups.

Every Black Hole Contains Another Universe? by smilingqueenin space

Fascinating stuff. I wonder how time for different observers would feel like. Would an observer outside the even horizon say that the black hole contains a frozen big bang? Once he enters through the singularity/wormhole, he would enter the moment of creation and experience birth of the new universe?

OR: Would these wormholes act as constantly running matter pumps, feeding the expansion of the 'daughter' universes?

The inferiority complex is real, for sure. I've worked daily with colleagues from the US for over a decade and I've been amazed during the past few years of this 'sorry, I'm from the US' phenomenon. When I first encountered it, I understood; you were sorry for the idiot you had as the president and all the screwups of his administration. But that is long-gone and the rest of the world (still) salutes you for the fact that you want to fix things, and you started it by electing a new president recently.

Dear friends in the US: You've got a great country - be proud of it. I just can't stand your inferiority complex, the way you guys bash your own country is downright embarrassing even to listen to.

Your energy consumption without physical training is (11.6W+879)1.3 where W = weight in kilograms. Assuming your weight is 120 kg (just a guess based on your pant size 44), you can eat 2900 kcal per day without gaining or losing weight. If you eat 1800 kcal per day, you will lose one kilogram per week which is pretty much the maximum one should aim at. Weight training does not consume much calories but it will gradually increase your basic metabolic rate (the coefficient 1.3 will grow to 1.4). 'Gradually' in this context refers to several months.

Cardio does burn calories and to factor that in, you should get a heart rate monitor. People often overestimate their energy consumption.

To get a good start, you might want to start your journey with diet only. Get your energy from proteins, fat and slow carbs with high fibre content. That should keep hunger away. Once you have started to lose weight, starting a training program is much more fun and your motivation is more likely to remain on a good level.

But if you really want to start both diet and training at the same time, you should eat more than 1800 kcal per day, maybe 2300 kcal if you burn 500 kcal per day. But that is going to be a very tough program because 500 kcal from training is actually quite a lot. And as you are a heavy guy, your body might not be able to cope with the stress - especially your knees and hips are in the danger zone.

I wish you good luck, you have a very good chance of succeeding because you're doing this for the first time.

I have an E60 and do admit that it is a bit ugly but who cares; E60 has got an identity and target buyer is a guy anyway. Once the first photos of the new model came out, I was so going to refresh. Then I saw it in a car show. What an anticlimax, really. It's simply too conservative. Instead of giving the car an identity, the design team seem to have taken a careful approach and combine the 3-series tail with 7-series front. After the first facelift, I'll have another look.

I guess you didn't know that the real story would be about Goldman Sachs's role in the crisis of Greece. It's being discussed in the European media right now but the US media is shy to bring it up.

The CNN article is probably influenced by a PR agency, it may even be written by one.

13th month salary is by no means unusual in Europe. Early retirement in government jobs is often part of the deal, the other side of the equation is the lousy pay in public sector.
