That's what gender (opposed to sex) is. It's a construct of society, the baggage, constraints, expectations that go along with one's biological sex. Sure there's nothing inherently male or female about specialized knowledge, but male and female are different from masculine and feminine.

You deciding not to go to church won't affect the religious right at all, but it might mean a lot to your mom. I'm an atheist and a lesbian and I hadn't been to church in years. A couple months back I flew home to see my grandfather before he had heart surgery. I went to a Catholic Mass with him and during the sermon he said something like, "I've been hearing a lot about gay marriage. Fifty years ago interracial marriage was illegal. Just think about that."

You might have better luck posting on r/LGBT or r/ainbow. I think everyone comes out differently based on their situation. If you're still dependent on your parents and you think they'll take it badly, it could be better to wait. Good luck.

Okay, here are two that you've never heard of before:

1) If gays are allowed in the military then the military will have mobility problems because the gays will keep falling down when the army tries to move.

2) We need gays in the sciences not the military because they are the country's future.

These were legitimate arguments from one of my sister's student's final essays when she was teaching English in China. ಠ_ಠ

My wife is an emetophobe and taking Dramamine helps her. It doesn't help with the actual phobia, but it helps control the panic attacks because it eliminates nausea.

I'm always really nervous public speaking too. In August I had to defend a paper as part of the comprehensive exams for my program--it's a 45 minute presentation with 15 minutes of intense questions. Well, my sister and I have an ongoing marshmallow war (here's a link) to a post my sister made explaining it. Anyway, the day before the presentation, my sister messaged reaction_on_my_nub and convinced her to draw me this.
