Older generations of Reddit, what annoys you most about the 'kids these days'? by plasticbagintheseain AskReddit

Okay, I'll bite:

On the topic of sex, I wouldn't say there's a direct benefit of having sex at an early age, but on the flip side people who are taught sex is bad tend to repress what their biology is signaling to them. It's only natural to start having urges for sex right around the time of puberty. Young people are gonna do it no matter what because it's what their bodies tell them, so why not teach them safe sex? Benefits from sex at a young age are subjective. It taught me to be comfortable with my body, and prepared me for future relationships. I wanted to go to college knowing how to please a woman, so I guess it prepared me for that too. Again, subjective.

Drugs are on the same subjective level. I'm not gonna go on to the nitty gritty, but my drug use actually benefited me, whether you choose to believe me or not is irrelevant, I just wanna give my perspective. I smoked weed here and there to help relieve stress, and I've done my fair share of psychedelics and some MDMA here and there. Let me just say that experiences with these drugs motivated me to be a better person, and gave me an optimistic outlook on life. Actually my life changed dramatically after the first experience I had with MDMA. I became more social, I got in shape, and I met TONS of new people, including girls. I started being comfortable with being outgoing. I would start striking up conversations with random people when i never used to. I even started getting better grades. Seriously. I never let my drug use interfere with my real life. I knew when to work hard, and I knew when to play hard. Why they changed me? I can't really say for sure, I just know that my experiences with these drugs changed my view on life in a positive way after I came down. I saw things in a new light; appreciated my loved ones more; became more empathetic etc.

Now I know I'll probably catch a lot of shit for promoting my drug use, but I'm serious when I tell you guys that it changed my life for the better. Would I want my kids doing what I did? No. Why? Because it could affect them differently, maybe negatively. For me it was a gamble, and it just happened to work out in the end. I agree you have way more to lose than gain, I ended up gaining.

I think the point is that young people need to find balance, and parents need to reinforce this. Your kid can't be completely let off a leash to run free, but you can't shelter them either. Consequences need to be established and parents need to get rid of the mentality that "Oh my kid can do no wrong. He's failing school? Let's go after the teacher. He got arrested underage drinking? Let's go after the friends he was with." They need to be held accountable for their actions which is something you don't see anymore. Kids feel entitled, and that they'll always be protected by mommy or daddy. This leads to exactly the attitude you're talking about.

I had sex when I was younger (16+), and I experimented with my fair share of drugs. I never got any girl pregnant, never got an STD, and I just graduated a big name college as a dual major along with a full time job. I'm not saying that your points are wrong, as I do believe you have to be responsible when it comes to using recreational drugs or having sex, but I don't believe there's actually a right answer when it comes to these specific points because everybody is different. Some young people do drugs/have sex and escape unscathed to live normal lives, others form drug habits or get knocked up and ruin their lives.

My taste definitely extends past PH. PH isn't the only genre I listen to, I like a ton of other genres as well. Why do you automatically assume we have boring tastes in music? Even people who just like this genre are entitled to liking it without someone calling it boring. What you like and don't like about music is all subjective. There's no point even calling that shit out. It's not trolling, it's just you giving us your opinion.

Edit: I think i've said this before, I just never understand why people bother calling out people's tastes in music when we're all just going to go home and listen to what we want to at the end of the day, regardless of what anyone thinks or says.

theres a big difference at saying "haha" in the context of the lady who gave you life dying vs a deer dying.

The haha was directed at the coincidental nature of our experiences... Especially the coincidence of the same exact fence claiming another deer life.

Haha similar thing happened to me. I have the same type of black fence that's in this picture. Deer love to come and poke their heads through the rungs in the fence and eat the arborvitaes trees on the other side. One morning I found a deer dead with its head stuck in between the rungs. It must've poked it's head through to eat, panicked, and snapped its own neck trying to get it out.

My first show was cute is what we aim for at the school of rock in south Hackensack NJ. Before that I used to go to local shows at The Knights of Columbus... Those old venue halls where the NJ scene started. Saw those old school bands like a day at the fair and Madison.
