In fact, the opportunity cost may have been where the myth originated. In other words, is it more time efficient to chop wood or leaves? Without single-player-commands, if you concentrate only on chopping wood and allow the leaves to despawn, you'll be more efficient overall.

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

Put the IP of the server in that file, and name the host something whimsical. Use the whimsical hostname in the Minecraft server listing.

In some respect, sure. Just like, people who understand Redstone and can build XP farms in Minecraft have a certain advantage. But Minecraft doesn't revolve around Redstone, at least not for most people. So I doubt the ability to code in 0x10c will be all that different.

So, if a player makes multiple maps, using shift-click, keeps one, and leaves one in a nether-side portal frame so that the other player picks it up, then it's possible to briefly track them if they return and select the map, yes?

That seems like the only scenario I can imagine. Remote. Probably not worth it.
