Makin' My Family by Mau5fan1in funny

[–]imthemostmodest 9 points10 points ago

I like that it looks like there was a "G" at the end of "MAKIN" but he scraped it off.

I can just imagine his thought process. "No, no. This won't do. This won't do at all. Proper spelling makes this vulgar decal appear much too formal."

Alright. You present a solid case. Having only browsed the pictures, it seems my instinctive judgement about the first couple of party pictures doesn't bear out... looking at those pictures in isolation, it's much clearer.

Hmm. It was a pretty instinctive guess, but let me reason it out.

Those pictures may have been genuine romantic encounters. They may not. I don't know the person. But the pictures in question are mostly of a variety I have seen countless times: the "we'll kiss each other in front of the camera but we're looking right at it to make sure we're being seen" variety. The sort done for cheap thrills in front of an audience, particularly a camera.

If there were pictures of her holding hands with a girlfriend, or with her arms around one in a way that isn't reflected in her pictures with guys, I might estimate otherwise. But there really isn't much other than the party pictures. We see pictures with her and some guys outside party settings, several of which look like they are about to go on a date, as a couple. Some even look like earlier prom pictures.

Also, the main reason i don't think the quantity of pictures matters is that repetition does not connote sincerity-- you may ask every person in your office how they're doing when you walk into work in the morning, but that doesn't mean you want to hear an answer other than "fine, and yourself?" The remains just as true for the first person you ask it of as the last... Of course, it depends on your workplace. Some places I've worked, I'd want to hear the answer. Some places, not so much. But overall, it's just a greeting. The phrase "How are you doing?" doesn't always indicate the words literally spoken, just as the action of kissing a person doesn't indicate romantic feelings.

If she routinely kisses girls at parties to liven up the parties, it might just mean she goes to lots of parties.

These are all really great, but halfway through there there's a pic of her trying to prove her breasts aren't fake by stabbing them with scissors. Right there in between all the indeterminate cosplay and faux-lesbianism. Sort of threw me for a loop.

Ah. Violent obsolescence... These examples make me very curious, thank you... I think I'll watch this movie when I get home tonight.

I never got the concept of a "Last" Starfighter. If he's the last one, who would he fight? Who does the last Cowboy have a shootout with? Who does the last Samurai duel?

I was quite young (eleven years old) and I recall it being very traumatizing. It was the first time I was really in danger and trapped without my parents being able to get to me (I was in school in manhattan, and the bridges were all closed). I wasn't really old enough to have friends to lose there, but two of my friends lost parents, and my stepfather lost several firefighting friends-- one of whom I knew very well and missed very much.

Maybe my response is different because I was younger, and didn't fully register the scale of the event because of my age, but all I can tell you is that I was truly there, and this image did make me laugh. It doesn't change the fact that the event still registers as a tragedy for me, or that I find most jokes about it to be in bad taste, it just felt like this image was well placed in an image collection that is mostly full of other atrocities.

I'm sorry for your losses, but different people react to tragedy in different ways, especially if they experience it at different ages. For you, perhaps this event was only a third or a quarter of your life ago, and therefore more recent on a relative scale, but for me this was more than half a lifetime ago.

Really? That one was the one that made me lose it.

I mean, I was there that day. I saw that tower collapse with my own two eyes. But the absurdity of chasing a man with a bat when he's already falling to his death... that's funny.

Yeah, like that whole middle east thing. It should all be really simple, why doesn't everyone just stop fighting? It's not like there's millennia worth of conflict and abuse to resolve.

Indeed, and about how easily that could happen to the Brits. Why else set it in England? In London, to be precise. Why else call the society Ingsoc [English Socialism]?

Even if we disagree about who 1984 was "about", surely you must concur that Britain has more political correctness than America. Within the past week, a man, Olly Cromwell, who had been arrested for posting a picture of a house and referring to a local magistrate in Bexley with the word "cunt" in a TWEET, was found guilty-- by the local magistrates in Bexley.

The proposed sentence is 45 days for each letter in the word Cunt.

You may recall this past November a woman was arrested in London for going on a racist tirade. Her charge was not disturbance of the peace, but specifically "Racially-Aggravated Offense."

For her words.

Now, I'm not talking about getting fired from her job or ostracized from society, which is what I personally believe should have happened to her after that video. I'm talking about being imprisoned by the state.

Say what you will about political correctness in America. Actually, don't say it. It'll probably get you fired. But it won't get you put in jail.

Inglorious Bastards. The man in the picture is Cristoph Waltz playing Col. Hans Landa, and he earned an academy award for this performance.

And deservedly so.

My family not giving a damn about the floods in Thailand [fixed] by justafurryin funny

Right, because in Thailand they have around-the-clock coverage of flooding in Louisiana and completelty ignore disasters that are closer to them (and are therefore more likely to affect them or people they know).

Parents of murdered British students criticise Barack Obama by MrDongin conspiracy

[–]imthemostmodest 1 point2 points ago

If this was a "random murder" involving several American citizens, it would be highly unusual to see the expectation of a response, let alone a response itself.

However, this involves the citizens of another nation, in particular a very close ally. It is not unusual, when an incident occurs between two nations, for there to be at least some official recognition of the event.

Very replayable.

The government will never have to mandate such a thing. If self-driving cars really are noticeably safer, the insurance premiums for people who drive their own cars should rise accordingly, and would ideally turn driving your own car into an expensive and eccentric hobby.

You'll still have your freedom to drive your own car, but from a risk assessment point of view, with something like a car where insurance is vital, it would get expensive very quickly.
