New hair, new shirt, new bag, new shoes; whatdjyall think? by shadowthunderin malefashionadvice

German Army Trainers. German Army has been using them as an athletic shoe for a long time. They've become a classic sneaker, and they're pretty damn cheap if you get originals. Only the knock-off luxury ones like MMM are expensive.

What kind of GATs are those?

Sorry for the crappy cell phone quality, but here I am getting ready for prom. What do you think? by MrJoeBlowin malefashionadvice

[–]huhwot 16 points17 points ago

Good lord get a white shirt. Black shirts are generally disdained here, and wearing one to prom just screams "clueless high-schooler." I would also get rid of the vest, and just go with the bowtie.

Asides from that, fit seems pretty good, though the picture is so dark I can't really discern most of the details of the tux. Pocket square is a nice touch though.

All in all, assuming the rest of the tux fits, and you're wearing black lace-up shoes, just swap the black shirt for a white one, get rid of the vest, and you will look great.

Living on poor expenses, which shoes match my spring outfit better? by DanV10in malefashionadvice

Return the first pair and go to Old Navy and buy two polos that fit you better, in navy and white. Then buy a pair of non-cargo slim shorts in khaki that hit just above the knee at Target, look for the Merona brand. Beware of "relaxed-fits."

Keep in mind that these are just recommendations, of course. It's your money and you are free to spend it as you please. The three items I referenced, though, wil give you variety and an overall improved look. If you haven't already, I heartily recommend reading the Sidebar, especially The Basic Wardrobe 2.0 and the Summer/Spring Guide.

Oh, and dont restrict yourself to "classics." If you're solely interested in them, that's fine, but further down the line when you have mastered the basics and find yourself getting bored, don't be afraid to branch out. Fashion is fun, and it's not just for girls. For now though, focus on learning the rules, and once you've gotten a grip on them, then you can start to break them.

Second pair is much better, to answer your question. Sleeker, simpler, and more cohesive with the outfit. The bad news is that both shoes are very similar, so you really don't need the first pair to begin with.

The problem of this outfit however, is not with your shoes. Long baggy cargo shorts are never a good look, and that polo looks pretty big on you(and unbutton another button.)

You're young, so money might be tight when it comes to clothes, that's understandable. But investing in a pair or two of cheap 9 inch shorts with no cargo pockets and a narrow leg opening, along with a couple-well fitting shirts will make a big difference. You'll look better, feel better, and people will notice. At your age, that means alot.

Go to Old Navy, Target, H&M, wherever. You can get some good outfits there for dirt cheap. Remember, keep it simple. Nothing flashy, nothing loud. Don't be that guy that tries too hard to dress well, just keep it classic and cool.

Sorry if I overstepped your question, but you've really got potential. Keep it up, kid. Also, your watch is nice.

Need a cheap blazer for a job interview. Cheap as in $100 or less. Is this at all possible? by waffleburnerin frugalmalefashion

Merona at Target makes good ones for less than $50. That should suit your needs.

Which flip-flops out of these(if any) should I get. For beach and summer streets near sea. by yodalrin malefashionadvice

[–]huhwot 8 points9 points ago

Just stick with a plain black or brown pair. Flip-flops are strictly utilitarian, and don't need any pointless adornments or details.

Also, Birkenstocks are ugly as fuck.

I have $500. Assuming I start from scratch, is it possible to start up a nice looking wardrobe? by RazzBlammyMatazzin malefashionadvice

Creating a wardrobe is like building a building. It's a long, methodical process that is in itself a learning process, with plenty of mistakes and revelations thrown in along the way.

First, you need the foundations. I'm assuming you want to start completely from scratch, so when buying, think in not individual clothing pieces, but outfits. When buying a shirt, don't think of how good the shirt looks by itself, rather, think in terms of how many good outfits you can create with it.

There is a wealth of information about where to start building your foundation in the sidebar, before you go out and buy anything at all, I recommend reading every thread that is relevant to you.

If you haven't read [The Basic Wardrobe] guide yet, go do it now. With $500 and some discretion you can easily amass a fully functional and good-looking wardrobe in no time. Remember, the essentials are top priority. Levi's 511 in indigo, a pair of Van's or the almighty Clark's Desert Boots. A Timex Weekender with a NATO Strap. H&M has good t-shirt's available for around 8 bucks a pop, but beware, H&M is informally dubbed "fashion trash" for a reason. They sell cheap, poorly-constructed stuff with not so great materials that will fall apart after awhile.

Remember, you are building a foundation here, not putting the finishing adornments and decorations on. No blaring colors just yet, but with spring and summer coming up look at whites, browns, blues, greens, reds, and greys. Solid colors are higher priority over stripes or patterns.

It's great that you want to start a new wardrobe and a new look for yourself. Just remember though, in case you're feeling like a MFA clone after awhile, that once you've gathered those foundational pieces critical to any wardrobe, you can start exploring your own personal style. Baby steps for now, though. And remember, fit is king. Before I discovered MFA, I wore shirts two sizes too large, and sizing down made a world of difference.

Good luck on your new wardrobe, and remember, read the sidebar!

Opinions on this bag for a college student? by ProfessionalGeekin malefashionadvice

[–]huhwot 1 point2 points ago

I have this very same bag, and heartily recommend it as a high school senior. The picture doesn't give this bag justice, it's very nice-looking, much more utilitarian than aesthetic-based, but it complements just about any outfit I've worn.

It's made out of very good material. I've had this bag since about August and haven't had a single issue with it, while I see friend's bags fall apart before their eyes.

It holds alot of stuff too, between it's two pockets underneath the flap, the back-flap, and the two on the sides.

The only issue with it is like despaxes said, the adjustability. I'm 5'9 and at the last hole it sits a bit below my hip.

Asides from that, it's a great bag, and I plan to continue using it throughout college. It has a no questions asked lifetime warranty on it, which is fantastic as well.
