We just went by votes and made cut offs where there was a natural break in the top tier of nominations. Next year, we will have to have rules about size for Large and Small, but since we didn't have any this year, we just did the best we could. **Edit: you are right about /r/gaymers being in both incorrectly. That was an honest mistake by me. It is only in little now. We got behind on the awards with the whole blackout and clearly didn't proof this round enough.**

Before I joined the reddit ~~cult~~ staff, I worked in the film & music industry. Even back then, even working for a fairly nimble indie company, it was pretty frustrating to see how the industry was failing miserably to even try transitioning to a digital world.

Anyway, in the aftermath of the SOPA/PIPA defeat, someone asked me to write an article about what the entertainment industry should be focusing on and investing in, instead of lobbyists.

I have some pretty basic ideas (like optimizing pricing based on revenue not contracts), but I think there's also a lot of potential with strong fan communities like /r/breakingbad.

So, as a hypothetical, what digital Breaking Bad-related item would you actually pay $20-$50 for? Could be anything. What would be on your wish list?

Certain provisions do not apply, however as with everything in these bills the definitions are far too broad and vague. There are parts of SOPA that only apply to "US sites", others like the blacklist enforcement that apply to only US companies. As just one example, reddit uses the Italian TLD .it for it's link shortener redd.it. Under the wording of the bill this could be viewed as a foreign site.

He is incorrect (no matter how loudly or forcefully he asserts otherwise) because the definitions involved are very broad and vague, and are ruled upon without adequate due process. For example, there are plenty of circumstances one could imagine a judge ruling that reddit is "foreign site" based on the broad definitions in the actual language of the bills. Furthermore, the burden on enforcing the "blacklist" upon sites like reddit (which would be considered a search engine under the definition of the bill) would either be technically difficult and/or financially prohibitive. It also opens up whole new areas of liability for users and websites, while making services that comply with private rights of action requested by copyright holders and the copyright holders themselves immune from liability should their copyright claims be invalid. When he was talking about liability he was referring to the liability of service providers that comply with copyright holders private rights of action. As in, reddit would not be liable for making a mistake or removing links from our site, which later turned out to be based on invalid copyright claims by private parties. Neither would copyright holders be liable for sending out fraudulent claims, as they have repeatedly and aggressively done under DMCA. The entire bill is designed to give maximum power and minimum responsibility to copyright holders. the unintended consequences and potential for abuse are potentially devastating. But he seemed to be talking very forcefully, so I guess we're just supposed to trust him on it.

The supporters of these bills have worked up some very compelling acronyms that frame the debate about these bills: PROTECT-IP (Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act) and SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act).

Clearly, the reason why these bills have so many supporters despite the huge problems with them and growing list of opponents is because they have cleverer names.

We're trying to come up with a good backronym for all of the companies that are blacking out their site or otherwise standing up in opposition of SOPA/PROTECT-IP.

Clearly, the bills authors do not consider any of us that work in or depend on the internet/tech sector for our profession to be "American business or consumers", so I think a name for the group of companies (job creators) that are opposing these bills should reflect that.

We need your help with name/backronym ideas. All the ones we came up with were NSFW.
