Been there, done that, saved about $50,000 or thereabouts, ended up none the worse for wear. There will inevitably be some differences (po-tay-to vs. po-tah-to), but I look at it as an advantage in the long run: now you know two nomenclatures for transfer functions. It also doesn't seem to carry a "stigma" -- I was expecting a bit of disdain, but nope, students and faculty seem to welcome transfers.

(Protip: you'll end up in third-year classes in your first s... sss... academic period with a bunch of people who have been together for two full years, and a handful of people who are transferring in. It behooves you to make contact with, and get to know, the other transfer students.)

The social thing can be a challenge, but others will probably have to speak to that: I'm older than average, married, own a house, and commute via bus and bicycle, so it's all a social challenge. I've had to grow a beard and start wearing cargo shorts to keep youngsters from panicking and jettisoning perfectly good weed when I walk past.
