Let's clarify what an Ent actually is... by J4sonin trees

Also, people are largely coming here while or after smoking trees. Grammar/spelling should never be at the top of your priority list if you just smoked a bowl. You're doing it wrong!

Dear redditors, what's the most common error that foreigners do cooking your country dishes? by MrGestorein Cooking

I grew up on hagelslag whenever grandma was around for breakfast. There were no complaints from me, and frankly, if it wasn't chocolate sprinkles on toast, it was cinnamon toast crunch or lucky charms. There is no escaping shitty breakfast habits, no matter the nationality...

Israeli Minister Agrees Ahmadinejad Never Said Israel ‘Must Be Wiped Off the Map’ by bornemixin conspiracy

[–]hogey11 2 points3 points ago

Unless you want to consider the idea of Ahmandinejad and Netanyahu being on the same side and mutual war being the eventual goal, I don't think we're gonna get anywhere....

Collusion happens on the highest levels. From Bin Laden and Bush to Israel and Iran, circumstance makes strange bedfellows. I think both sides have elements that would love to stoke a war between the countries, but ultimately we have to admit that Israel's international grip on geopolitics HAS to figure into this. Iran isn't putting their noses in the world's business. We're putting our noses in theirs. You cannot escape this fact.

I will end with this tho: the normal civilian population of both countries should receive nothing but love from us. They are the pawns that actually face destruction each day. 95% of people really want the same thing in life - family, good food, and a nice place to hang out (to generalize quite a bit). The same should be said over there. This is nothing but politics and posturing.

We are all one people - Israeli or Iranian. Picking sides only diminishes this fact.

Israeli Minister Agrees Ahmadinejad Never Said Israel ‘Must Be Wiped Off the Map’ by bornemixin conspiracy

[–]hogey11 2 points3 points ago

I disagree with that. I don't think that's the prevailing mindset at all. I think redditors realize that these opinions are being sold. Everyone is buying up Israel's rhetoric, but much of it doesn't line up. This fuels the ire of reddit. Iran, while having some war mongerers of their own, do not go to nearly the same length to demonize Israel in online/western media. The mechanism that is causing Israel to be criticized is happening purely because Israel doing its thing and being caught acting like a douche nozzle. Iran, while not perfect, is generally getting in our faces far less, which on a more aware place like reddit, earns you support. We're not giving billion of dollars to Iran like we are Israel. You cannot judge them the same.

Don't confuse the truth of all of this. Israel deserves nobody's pity. They made their bed - now they have to sleep in it.

[–]hogey11 2 points3 points ago

But do you really feel Israel is under-represented in this argument? All we EVER hear is "Iran is the worst! They goad us into it!" and that happens to be similar to the point you were making.

Israel doesn't need any help on their side of the argument; they pay enough people to argue for them already.

pot meets kettle. neither side is without blame. both sides are assholes. you only seem to want to admit half of that truth.

You can't be afraid of the truth; it may be uncomfortable at times, but you end up better off. Giving limp dick feedback to people doesn't affect any change in them or the world; we have to embrace even the inconvenient truths.

I love Boerenkool

Basically, it's mashed potatoes with boiled/jarred kale, onions, and served with rookwurst sausage on the side. I like to put white vinegar and mustard over top of it, and i'm sure there are other variations as well... Sounds crazy but it's one of my favorites!!!

The real story behind the rejected TED talk on inequality. by cptjmshookin politics

[–]hogey11 -2 points-1 points ago

they're calling it mediocre because this is a smear campaign to save face and nothing more. They know they got caught red-handed but they are going to do what the 1% always do - lie, bribe, and intimidate everyone until they're left alone with what they wanted in the first place.

The real story behind the rejected TED talk on inequality. by cptjmshookin politics

[–]hogey11 0 points1 point ago

actually its coming out quickly that all this guys excuses are bullshit. who swallowed the pill again? you unquestioningly just took up the first excuse they offered and it completely changed your mind?

Did you watch the 2 videos? Did you at least notice that the TED people say that it received 'mediocre' responses from the crowd when instead it apparently received a standing ovation? The facts don't even line up!

I don't know what exactly happened here, but I know that they aren't going to tell the public 100% of the truth about it. To believe that would be foolish.

and I think the reason people are coming against you is because you are intimating that big business interests are more important than moral/ethical stances (it's not a purely religious argument, to be fair).

The fact that financial interest and power are off-limits should be the biggest slap in the face anybody could ever receive. The people who determine your value and worth as a producing member of society are telling us that we have no right to even know - let alone have a say in - how we are treated as financial interests. As it is, we are exploited; by not attacking this you are only helping this to happen.

The argument this whole thing highlights is a very important one. It tells us that when we fail to control the elite, they attempt to become gods. We have such people in this world today; those who control our money supplies and geopolitical/military interests. The population is starting to knock on the door of figuring this whole thing out and they don't know what to do; you can't make things 'go away' like you could in times past. Ultimately, moves like this in the internet-era always end up biting someone in the ass. Who wants to bet some other organization gets this guy to come give a similar/the same speech elsewhere and they produce that into a youtube? They have the whole marketing angle of "the only talk ever rejected by TED!" to work off, which i'm sure reddit would wholeheartedly support as would other sites...

Just sayin' :P

I think his point is more that they'll take on all sorts of subjects that bring great controversy, yet the straw that breaks the camel's back is the shining of a spotlight on the fact that rich people do not benefit the whole.

Many consider TED to be a hugely progressive resource for all sorts of subjects that can change our future. I think people are surprised that even TED can't speak against the banksters; it shows the true power of the global banking system. They tell everyone what to do, and there is no way to dodge them.

Depends on the clarity of the hash too. The hash that I collect from my grinders/vaporizers smells almost floral and not at all like stinky weed. If you pressed the hash into a thin sheet and wrapped it in a layer or two, it would have no smell. He may have scented the card a bit too to cover it.

He said he got back and it was on his door, so I think we can assume he wasn't home at the time (or at least it's a good possibility). It was also brought to him 'the next day', so that checks out too. Printing out a small picture of GGG and writing /r/trees on it and putting it into the wallet sounds like something a person would do if they were trying to be nice.

Maybe the guy was gonna keep it but got baked and decided not to after reading a /r/trees post or something, so he did that to signify it. I'd do that if I were stoned and chillin.

I am not a religious person but don't you think that you shouldn't be subscribed to r/atheism automatically like you are not subscribed to r/christianity or r/islam or r/judaism? by dbalciin AskReddit

[–]hogey11 0 points1 point ago*

you just said true, yet you say they are different? you are admitting the point yet ignoring it!

/r/atheism is just as hateful and closed-minded as any religious subreddit or group. They find their value in the ridicule of others beliefs rather than keeping their opinions to themselves (unless asked) and use their energy to continue to work on themselves rather than being evangelical about their atheism.

Guess what? As an agnostic, both sides piss me off. Both are claiming to have truths that neither of them could POSSIBLY have outside of a personal anecdote. Atheists only win their arguments by assuming that everyone who believes in a higher intelligence is a either fundamental christian from texas or a child-raping priest from the catholic church, which is about as fair as Christians claiming that every atheist would be completely amora and narcissistic without believing in God. Neither is true; there are good people who go to church just as there are good people who are atheists.

You are also ignoring the point of the OP. New subscribers to reddit automatically get signed up for /r/atheism. Why is that okay when it wouldn't be okay for a religious subreddit to do so?

As someone who can't be anything but agnostic, I have to say that it is very hard not to judge atheists due to the crap I see when i'm not logged into my account on the front page. It just makes me feel they are as resentful and petty as they people they oppose. Like Republicans and Democrats.

Concerns about legalization/mass use by lubeinatubein eldertrees

[–]hogey11 4 points5 points ago

they can't do that to many people. If someone is growing 2-3 plants in their garage, I don't even think it will register, especially if it is legal to do. 2-3 plants for personal use is more than enough for one person.

proof again that shows don't have to be faux-3d and HD to keep a kids attention. I plan on showing my little girl the best from every era. I figure this will also minimize the chance of her getting overly obsessed with some mainstream pop bullshit. Even netflix has a good collection of old kids cartoons, and PVR can capture a decent amount through the retro channels. I'm actually excited to watch fraggle rock again, to be honest...

Cannabis Use during Adolescence Affects Brain Regions Associated with Schizophrenia by justsayboomin science

[–]hogey11 0 points1 point ago

Because using a vaporizer is strictly better. More efficient, more use from the refuse, and completely healthy with the exact same effects (if done properly).

I use it in place of alcohol as a social relaxant. I don't really 'get stoned' by it anymore unless i'm reliving my younger habits; I liken my experiences to a good wine buzz. I almost only use after 8pm when it's time to relax and unwind for the day. I use it responsibly and I prioritize others in my use around them. I am sorry that you have had such bad experiences with it in your life (being allergic and all), but I suggest you consider one possibility:

What if all the responsible users are the ones you don't notice because they are doing it right? Maybe you are only noticing the 'bad people' because they are the only ones who stick out like sore thumbs? There are far more people who are thoughtful and responsible than you realize. Doctors, Lawyers, CEOs - all of these people use cannabis. They just have the budgets and private places to conceal their use of it.

because stoner culture is still fairly low-brow on the mainstream level. It is rising slowly but surely, but the fact that cannabis is illegal makes intelligent education and discussion tougher to come by. Marketing of vaporizers is tough because without the cannabis application, you are typically spending $100+ to heat some rose petals and spearmint leaves; it's not an easy sell. The health and privacy benefits of a vaporizer are a serious benefit; the health benefits being the largest (no smoke = no problem)

[–]hogey11 -1 points0 points ago

That's not normal tho.

If it were legal, people would probably be able to do it in more contained areas without fear of being caught. Also, vaporizers would be much more commonplace, as would edibles and other delivery forms. No matter which way you cut it, marijuana being illegal is a bad deal for everyone.
