I installed from a USB drive using the Windows 7 USB installer tool.

If you're on a mac, you could probably just use dd to transfer the disk image to a USB drive. Basically, just do: 

sudo dd if=/home/whatever/path/to/image.iso of=/dev/usbdrivedevicenode

unix based OSes FTW.

I like my solution to facebook chat better.

Basically, I use bitlbee for my facebook chat, so I can use my normal IRC client. Since I use a znc bouncer for all my irc, I run my bitlbee server through my znc. This makes it seem that I'm always online on facebook chat, and if someone PMs me while I'm afk, they assume I'm ignoring them, and they stop.

TL;DR: look like you're online all the time in chat, people think you're ignoring them.
