Sunburned. Help! by hgielrehtaehin BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh[S] 1 point2 points ago

Took my temp and no fever currently. I just assumed I had one because of the chills... I will call the doctor.

I have some pedialyte on hand. I'll give that a go.

It would have to smell better than the apple cider vinegar, at the very least.

Gggrrreeeaaaat.... I'll take my temp again just to be sure and call my OBs line to see what they suggest.

I could cry...

I'm thinking the hospital would give fluids and maybe pain meds. I will keep an eye out for blisters. Good to know I would need to go for that.

As far as I know, they fled when things turned bad for the Targs in Westeros. So it isn't like they left on vacation and decided to expatriate. They fled to save their lives.

I had trouble remembering how Roose and Vargo were different the first time through. I knew that a regime change had happened at Harrenhal, and I knew that both guys were awful and that Roothe (heh) was supposedly a northman, and Arya was too smart to reveal herself to him. But I still somehow kept lumpimg the two together like twin super villians.

I remember one part where, in GOT, or maybe early COK, Robb says, 'Eric or Derric or something like that' in reference to Beric Dondarrion, and at the time, I chuckled and thought, "yeah, that's how I feel about a lot of these characters- I butcher their names and treat them like they don't matter, when they do matter."

It would go to the second born son, Viserys, not skip up to his uncle. V was alive. Young, but alive. Crazy, but alive. Robert was an usurper, not the next in line.

That's like saying the line of Stark succession went Ned, Robb, BenJen, some random second cousin.

How do you guys manage to get out of bed everyday? by themudflapfeministin BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 0 points1 point ago

That's why I've been crazy trying to get everything ready. I know that, as exhausted as I am, it will only get worse. I shopped from about 11 till 4:30 today and I can barely walk tonight. :-( 4-8 weeks left....

I get up, make my husband and I breakfast, then do the dishes and pack his lunch. Then he is off to work. I usually do some housework then watch some Tv or internet (verb). I usually work on baby stuff or nap then eat lunch. Then work on baby stuff or nap. Sometimes I watch Tv or internet. I run errands as needed, Monday is chiropractor and groceries. Tuesday is ob every other week. Etc... then I work on dinner. Hubs comes home, we eat, I do dishes, hang out, then go to bed.

what's everyone up to tonight? by letsgoflyakitein BabyBumps

I took out the baby gift cards today and went shopping with a friend. I feel like I finally have what I "need" for baby. My cousin called right before I left and told me about the things she could let me borrow, which was awesome. It let me mark off a lot of things from my list. And I can breathe easy now that I have the crib mattress. I know it is silly because I plan on using a bassinet for the first bit, but it was really bothering me to not have the crib mattress. But as a result, I am completely exhausted, my hips and pelvis are killing me, my feet are swollen, and I don't even want to think about leaving the couch.

I should be working on dinner, but I am considering ordering in since I'm so exhausted. Hubs should be home in about an hour and a half, and we will probably eat dinner, watch an episode of Cheers, and then go to bed. Soooo exciting.

Pre-baby period issues - could I already be somewhat prepared for the pains of childbirth? by DirtyWhoreMouthin BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 0 points1 point ago

You're right, there's nothing they can do for it. And the first one I had burst, my gyn gave me the wrong kind of pain killer, and it did absolutely nothing for me. And, I found out I had the 8cm cyst right before we went on a road trip. It was pretty terrible.

I'm 34 weeks along, so we can totally compare notes! Try to remember to send me a message after I have my baby, and I'll let you know what my experience is. Or, if by some miracle, I remember to touch on it when I write my birth story, you can read about it there. But I make no promises of what I will remember in 2012 PB (Post-baby).

Blarg, I would probably make a switch if my OB was like that. Mine doesn't always spend lots of time with me. There have been very quick appointments. But usually it's because I haven't had complications, I have no questions, and those are the days she's backed up from deliveries. But she always sits down and asks what questions I have and what issues I've had since she last saw me.

Mine resurfaced. If it's any consolation, I only threw up and heaved for about two weeks. Now I just get nausea and strong food aversions. :-/ Hopefully it slips away like mine did...

I often wonder this too. My cramps are so bad that I have blacked out from the pain before. Throwing up from the pain is a regular period occurrence for me. I also have PCOS, and regularly get large (8 cm) ovarian cysts that burst, making life intolerable for a while. I'm hoping it has all been good prep for dealing with labor and delivery.

In the end, you have to do what is right for you. And you sometimes have to go with your gut because things aren't cut and dry.

Take any advice you get with a grain of salt (even mine, hehehehe).

[–]hgielrehtaeh 1 point2 points ago

Usually it takes a long time because of blood work and taking a comprehensive history, not necessarily because you're with the OB the whole time.

I would be wary if my doctor pushed a birth plan I wasn't comfortable with. But mine is all for me going natural, low intervention, and skin-to-skin right after birth. There's a different doctor in her practice that is horrible about pushing women into inductions. He starts by moving up the due date and then starts calling you and asking if you would like to go be induced starting at 38 weeks. I could never use him. I would probably punch him in theo throat. Hahaha....

Something else to consider is where you will be delivering (if there are more than one hospitals in your town). Some hospitals are more focused on natural birth, others aren't. Mine emphasizes that your care is yours and doctors just give recommendations and it is a partnership between you and your OB. If OB wants to induce, if there isn't a medical emergency, the decision is up to you.

Edit: and that's important because you'll spend more time in labor with the hospital staff than you will with your OB.

I haven't changed OBs after being pregnant, but I did before getting pregnant (we tried for years) after two appointments because the people in my old OBs office were idiots.

If you want to, go for it.

But honestly, you have a lot of appointments in your pregnancy. Every four weeks till what, the third tri? Then it's every two weeks. Then the last month is every week. There are plenty of opportunities to ask questions and talk to your doctor. Not sure what questions you think your doctor should have asked you. If you're able to find an OB that spends half an hour with each patient each appointment, then go for it. But in my area, that's just not very realistic.

My OB is hilarious, and makes me laugh. Some appointments, she's busy, some she takes more time. I figure it all evens out, and honestly, if she's backed up from delivering three babies that day, it's not a big deal to me if she's efficient and trying to get through the rest of her appointments.

Dreading the baby boy "blues" by salydrain BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 1 point2 points ago

We didn't find out the sex to avoid just that... all blue or all pink crap. Plus, if we are able to conceive again, then our gender neutral stuff will still work no matter what.

So far, I've received a lot of clothes, and as long as they aren't pastel blue or say "boy" on them, I'm going to use them even if we have a girl. I have brown and orange and grey outfits that I would wear if they were my size, so who cares! And I don't care what "sex" sleepers are made for, since the baby will be asleep and it's not like we'll have strangers looking in the crib asking what sex our baby is.

Packing the "ready" bag by Tardischildin BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 0 points1 point ago

My comment from the last thread about packing the bag:

Here's the list we got in our prepared childbirth class:

  • Two or more bed pillows from home - try not to use white pillow cases so they don't get mixed up with hospital pillows or left at the hospital

  • Music that is soothing to you

  • Cards, books, videos, , reading material, writing material, or any other time-passers

  • Several pair of thick, warm socks

  • Focal point

  • Hand held massager

  • Digital camera

  • Toiletries for you and your support person - this includes: unscented lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant (again, for you and your support person)

  • Slippers and a bathrobe

  • Change of clothes for your support person

  • Going home clothes for mom and baby

  • Change for vending machines

  • Watch or clock with second hand

  • Hand fan

  • Lip balm

  • Bra and panties

  • Phone charger

  • An extra bag in your bag to put dirty clothes in so it's easier to keep track of everything.

Ninja edit: Keep in mind, a lot of these things would be available on a smart phone or iTouch or something like that - the camera, the stop watch, the music. My hospital has free wifi throughout, so I'll be taking my smart phone and Kindle Fire for the reading materials. But, then you will need to remember the phone/tablet charger.

I just ate a half a large honeydew melon. I ate 1/4 of it this morning, 1/4 of it last night. So less than 24 hours I ate a whole honeydew melon.

Pretty annoyed at maternity clothes right now. -due in december, everything is spring/summer! by ilubbooin BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 1 point2 points ago

If you're anything like me, you'll be hot all pregnancy, and you will want cooler clothing.

But seriously, a sleeveless maxi + leggings (I'm 34 weeks, still wearing regular leggings) + cardigan (doesn't have to be maternity, just leave it open) would be just fine for cold weather.

I only bought maternity jeans from motherhood maternity, and I've gotten some tops at thrift stores. Mostly I wear long tank tops under my normal shirts, without any problem. I can wear my shorts from last summer under my belly, and that solves that. But I wear my jeans around my natural waist (high), so I can't just bunch up my jeans under my belly, it's too much material/too uncomfortable.
