Anyone else drinking wine? by vicoliin BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 0 points1 point ago

I did cook the whites, and they were eggs from our egg guy, which we get eggs from weekly, but I still worried. We've had some scares - 2 trips to the ER and we are currently waiting results to find out if our baby has Down Syndrome. It took us over 2 years to get pregnant, so we are being extremely cautious.

I don't think you're awful, or the worst pregnant lady ever.

But I am just not taking any chances. Except when I obsessed over "dippy eggs" for a few days and finally broke down and ate one. Then I worried for days that I hurt my baby. So there's no way I'd drink any alcohol.

Why I won't be watching the Super Bowl. . . or, can an authentic atheist really be a devoted NFL fan, without feeling like a hypocrite ? by unsalvageablein atheism

[–]hgielrehtaeh 1 point2 points ago

I'm having a Super Bowl party because it is a great excuse to.get together with friends, eat delicious food, drink beer, and pass judgement on pop culture (commercials, half time shows, sports in general).

I don't worship sports, and I wish as a global society, humans focused the money, time, and energy into great problems (hunger, war, scientific breakthroughs, etc), instead of sports. But.... you could say that about any entertainment.

If someone you don't know were to ask you, how would you respond *in one sentence* to "Why are you an Atheist ?" by AmanAndHisCouchin atheism

[–]hgielrehtaeh 0 points1 point ago

Because there is no evidence of the existence of anything supernatural.

My answer would only change if I were talking to someone stupid who doesn't know what the words I say mean. Ex. Evidence, supernatural.

Reddit, what would you do if your boss posted this on her office door? by andhernamewas_in atheism

[–]hgielrehtaeh 39 points40 points ago

I live in Indiana. I spent 6 months being harassed and going to HR only to have HR do nothing and my coworkers retaliate against me. I left and won my unemployment claim quickly and rightfully. Keep track of everything that they do, when you talk to HR, what HR does, and if there are changes. If there aren't, talk to HR again. Document it all.

"I'm sorry, I thought that we were on a date. You seem to think I only wanted friendship. But I don't. I am looking for a relationship. If you aren't, I'm going to continue to look for a woman who is. It is likely you will lose my friendship, because you have been misleading me this whole tome."

It isn't that hard. Wasn't there a comic the other day where everyone was like "Women! So dumb! Just need to communicate better!"

My spouse/baby-momma reads our 3 yr old son "audibles" from her kobo vox (the kobo does the reading) at bedtime. I feel like this is a bad idea, what do you think? by LivingDaylightin Parenting

[–]hgielrehtaeh 2 points3 points ago

I don't understand why. Why not just read to your child?

I know that research studies have shown kids have vocabulary.decreases for every extra hour of television they watch. I would imagine it would be similar here. Human interaction almost always trumps screen time for helping kids develop.

Your other points are valid too, about back lighting and exciting sounds. I just cant understand wanting to sit with your 3 year old and listen to a book instead of reading it.

DAE offer their SO blowjobs in exchange for doing chores that have just become too tiring or awkward lately? (possibly NSFW) by Skyblackerin BabyBumps

Yeah, but you have to get to the point of him coming before you get to swallow it. And I've been so nauseated that I don't even like food in my mouth, let alone a penis.

This is by far the worst day I've had so far during this pregnancy. (rant) by themudflapfeministin BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 0 points1 point ago

That's really frustrating. I have no advice to give, only sympathy.

But I have had an awful week, and just want to complain, so I'm going to complain too!!

I have been doing some nesting. My house is cleaner than ever. BUT, the room that will be our nursery is currently full of boxes of old clothes/stuff for a yard sale that needs to be taken to the attic, but I'm not allowed to lift heavy things, so I can't do it. My husband just laughs and says "We have plenty of time!" when I ask him to move them. It pisses me off.

And the last few days, I have felt like I must have a sign on me that says "it's totally okay to treat me like crap" that I can't see, but everyone else can. My mom yelled at me yesterday, saying that Pinterest is cyber hoarding (WTF... I have posted like, 10 things there in the last 3 months). We went to breakfast Saturday morning and they messed up my food order. Twice. I finally just ate my hash browns and that was it because it was the only thing I could stomach. Today, I went grocery shopping, and a little girl kept pointing at me and whispering to her dad. I am pretty sure it's because I'm fat.

Then I went to get my blood drawn, and the nurse was super rude to me. She kept saying "I don't know why people do this test." And I said, "Because I want to find out if my baby has Down Syndrome" and she said, "It shouldn't matter." And I said, "I would rather find out now, and have time to adjust my expectations than find out 2 minutes after I push the baby out." And she was like, "Well, does it run in your family?" I responded "No, but Down Syndrome isn't exactly hereditary." And she said, "Then why would you think your baby has DS?" And I responded, "My quad test came back positive for it." And she started drawing my blood and it HURT (and I'm no wimp and usually have no pain with blood draws). She was just so freaking rude!!! It's not even any of her business why I'm doing it, and her lack of professionalism really bothered me.

BLECH!!

Paleo & Pregnancy -- Really helping me. Posted on Paleo subreddit by sarafionnain BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 0 points1 point ago

I was on a meat and veggies diet through a nutritionist at a bariatric weight loss center. When I got pregnant she immediately said to add back in carbs, either through fruits, whole grains, starchy veggies (sweet potatoes, peas), or beans. I was hoping my OB would say otherwise, but she agreed with my nutritionist. Again, she said to avoid the refined carbs and sugars, but that its important to eat from all food groups.

You keep saying you are eating paleo but you're also eating whole grains (your example was we toast with breakfast). So it is modified.

I look forward to going back to my eating habits after birth, and I'm eating sensibly now (like she recommended to me). I urge everyone to eat healthfully, but I also encourage people to speak with a nutritionist or your OB before doing something like a paleo diet while pregnant.

Nervous about telling friends... by butwithawinnerin BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 13 points14 points ago

It could be just me, because I'm weird. But if my friend was in this situation, I'd be so happy for them, because it gives them hope for their future.

I'm so, so sorry for your loss. The pain must be unimaginable. I have no idea what it's like, as I have never lost a child. But in mourning the people close to me that I have lost, it has always helped to hang on to something that keeps me going, something that keeps me thinking about the future.

I would think it would be natural (and a sign of a really strong marriage) that you guys find comfort in physical contact with each other. I don't think you guys have anything to be ashamed of.

If you want to take some extra time for yourselves to prepare for how others may react, and build up some confidence in this announcement, do it! Only tell people when you're ready.

I sincerely hope that people react with joy and love for you.

Opinions on cloth diapers? by AugustMommyin BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 1 point2 points ago

Something that we're considering is to use disposables through what I am calling "Hell weeks" - the first few weeks, where you're so sleep deprived and exhausted that I don't want to make life harder on myself. It also gets you past baby's first poops (really only the first few poops) where the poop is like tar you can hardly scrape off their sensitive little bums. I don't even want to imagine trying to get that poop out of cloth diapers. I figure once we have had time to establish a pattern, and I have a little more free time (heh... if that happens!) then we will switch over to cloth. The biggest appeal for me is that cloth diapered babies don't stay as dry, and as a result, usually potty train earlier than disposable diaper babies. It also helps save the earth yadayadayada, and there are some cost savings if you don't use a diaper service, especially if you have more than one kiddo, which we hope (fingers crossed) to do.

It's my favorite too. I loved the clock imagery. I think the actors were beginning to come into their own, as well, so the acting wasn't so....well...childish.

The absolute worst in my mind was HBP, they could have "fixed" the gaping plot holes with just a smidge of dialogue, and they burnt down the frickin Burrow. Wth? Which was disappointing, because I loved the book.

What is the reasoning behind not finding out the sex of your baby? by lolycooin BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 0 points1 point ago

I'm doing the same theme, and had someone say, yeah, but that's really boy-specific. I looked at her and said, "Girls can be astronauts too!"

Which is a lie, since we cut our space program, and no one can be astronauts now. :-(

But girls can be astrophysicists too!

What is the reasoning behind not finding out the sex of your baby? by lolycooin BabyBumps

[–]hgielrehtaeh 0 points1 point ago

1 - My husband wants a surprise. There are very few real surprises in life today, and everything is instantaneous.

2- I don't want a bunch of pink stuff if it turns out that this one is going to be a girl. And even if I asked people to avoid pink, it wouldn't matter. Pink is easy to find for girls and people love giving pink frilly clothes for girls. My cousin found out she was having a girl, and by the end of her baby shower, my eyes hurt.

3 - I know 4 couples who were told they were having X and the baby came out Y. I know on the whole it's not that common, but there is still a chance you'll have the other sex from what you're planning for.

I can accept other people's opinions, but that doesn't make them sensible. Babies have to eat, and breast is best. No one makes you eat in a toilet stall, I don't know why we should make our babies eat there.

There's a difference between eating and using the toilet.
