Suicide by cop follows through when the suspect charges at a cop with a knife, grabs hold of a cops gun, or similar. To suggest that every cop in the United States would instantly shoot any person standing perfectly stagnant in front of them with no weapon and asking them to end their life is both ignorant and ridiculous.

I'm absolutely sure you could. I wouldn't know how, but I'm sure you could. If there is a large enough group of people upset about it, why not contact them all and tell them to all write letters/email/etc to the warden to tell him/her that they're upset about it?

I would confront the warden, or whoever was in charge of scheduling. Having one staff member in a meal hall with ~2000 inmates passing through is a ridiculous and short sighted cash saver, and I don't know if anything could be done by him alone, but I'd make some time and explain my worries to the warden if it were me doing the job.
