Ok, I have something I need to rant about. by Genericrelishin Aquariums

[–]gtfoofpetsmart 0 points1 point ago

Disagree. Some do that. Most only refuse the absolute worst of the worst, and many not even that. None will refuse to sell a betta for a bowl. They sell bowls, so they will sell something to go into it. Bettas and comets are the go-to "we have to sell this customer something" animal.

As much as I hate them, that was really the owner's fault, and whomever the adult was with your sister. The dult with your sister should not have allowed her to be that close to a strange dog's face, even if the owner said she could pet it, and the owner should have only allowed a strange child to pet the rear haunches of his/her dog, while petting the front half him/herself. If the owner had no explicitly said she could pet the dog the adult with her should not have allowed her to be so close to it in the first place. I'm sorry to put the blame on your family, as this was a horrible accident, but people acting irresponsibly around dogs is the reason the one was put down. If it was a bad reaction the the vaccine, it would have subsided, and the dog would have gone back to it's normal self, and led a long happy life.

No. And I probably never will again. I can't handle the rude, arrogant people mis-treating their animals.

I just quit officially last November, and I only worked at one Petsmart, but I also worked at a Petco. Obviously, not much has changed since then, though I won't shop at chains anymore.

I feel that unless a snake is on the verge of death because it won't eat a frozen rat/mouse it should be only fed frozen. Not only for the rodent's sake. Frequently, when feeding live rodents to snakes, the snake is injured. They can lose eyes, and the bites can become infected on any part of their body. It is simply better for both parties. Not to mention frozen are much easier to keep.

As of right now, I am against pretty much anything bred specifically for the purpose of being a pet, simply because either it is poorly bred, or contributing to an over-population problem. Should breeding become more responsible, and over-population of dogs and cats become a thing of the past, I will take that back.

What I'm saying is that some of those won't fit their 110gal either. It unethical to even stock them, since so few people even have an aquarium that can properly house them.

Then we can talk about the fish you stock. I can list off at least 10 fish that should not be kept in the average home aquarium; Common Pleco, Pangasius Catfish, Bala Shark, Silver Tipped Shark, Coy, Goldfish, Clown Knife, Black Ghost Knife, Pacu, and Tinfoil Barb, and I'm sure I'm missing some. Eve if you care well for them, I doubt most, if any, customers that buy them truly have the space.

Just Banfield. It was pretty frequent. Robos tended toward seizure disorders, Russians and Winter Whites had unexplained hairloss, and the guinea pigs got upper respiratory infections. We were pretty good about taking things to the vet initially, but terrible about follow-up visits.

Your supplier doesn't take care of the animals you get. When I found out about how things really were I only stayed until I had a new job.

I'm not worried about Reddit. I'm worried about Petsmart. I sent my proof to the mods instead of providing it publicly so Petsmart couldn't easily find me and sue me. duh.

HEREis where you can call or e-mail. There is a link to the e-mail at the bottom. It clearly outlines the no hassle return policy, and doesn't specify country.

They should do something. My number one complaint about my managers was that they never backed up their employees, and always gave the customers whatever they asked for, even if the customer was in the wrong, lol. You're not wrong in this case, though.

I upvoted. Unfortunately, there is a majority of the population that simply doesn't give a shit. It isn't a lack of education, it is simply that they don't see animals the same way that we do. Because these people are the majority it is unlikely that laws will change. I don't know how you make someones basic feelings toward another living creature change.

That is the best summary of why chain pet stores do so well, and intentionally stock so poorly they "rely on their customers making bad decisions."

I do think he needs to berate the manager until he gets what he wants, though. The squeaky wheel has always gotten the oil from my experience.

The petperks in the US don't track your purchases like you think they do, so unless it's different in Canada...I'm doing an AMA right now on Petsmart in the US. feel free to join in.

On the whole dog owners do spend the most money per dog. Cat people spend a lot, but not as much as dogs owners. That isn't saying that there aren't cat owners that spend more, but on average the dogs owners win out.

I'm pretty sure Petsmart was a much smaller company back then. The bigger they get the less they care about the animals, I suppose.

Litigation (n) The act or process of bringing a lawsuit in and of itself. If they were to take legal action against me (eg. sue me), that would be litigation.

I didn't take it personally, I just didn't know what the reason was. It is generally considered courteous to give a reason when downvoting.

They tend to forget to feed the snakes pretty frequently, but that was at the one I worked at. They may be better at the one you got yours from. I'm sure it was sent from the supplier much younger than it should have been, but assuming it's eating alright, you should be fine.

I understand that, but even pure bred dogs end up in shelters and on the streets, adding to the over-population problem.

Buying pets as Christmas presents is an exceptionally bad idea.

People lie. If everyone was honest rules like that wouldn't be necessary.

[–]gtfoofpetsmart[S] 2 points3 points ago

People aren't always honest. If everyone was honest when they said their animal died it wouldn't be a problem, but because they're not, everyone has to bring the dead one back.

People with dogs tend to buy the most crap. That, and dog stuff takes up the most room, since there need to be so many sizes of everything for dogs. You only need one or two sizes of cat collars, you need like 5 sizes or more for dogs.

At least do Petco for rats. They have a higher turn-over, so they aren't usually quite as stir crazy. And they actively sell for feeders, so you kind of saved it, too.
