Any news on the new update? by Dadasasin CortexCommand

[–]greenearthbuild 0 points1 point ago*

Just check out his twitter page. Actually it looks like he has either released a new update or will be very soon. It's not on the licensing.datarealms.com yet. He says it will be released on the humble bundle site. I got it right from his site :(

Have You Used Your Backpack Bladder To Drink Beer? How Was It?Would You Do It Again? by Altitude-blogin backpacking

[–]greenearthbuild 4 points5 points ago

Haven't personally. But as a homebrewer, I wouldn't recommend trying it. I think it would be hard to get the taste out. You might also have problems with the carbonation blowing up the bladder if you weren't careful.

HELP! people who camp by sexy_stonerin CampingandHiking

Also consider that there is a difference between camping and hiking. And that people have different goals and priorities when going out into nature.

I've created a new subreddit for publishing and requesting reviews for outdoor equipment, hope you are interested. by haxfarin backpacking

[–]greenearthbuild 0 points1 point ago

Hey, just found your link buried in the spam. It is unspammed, but you may want to resubmit the link.

I think there might well be space for dedicated gear reviewing. The only problem is the specialization of the gear - several tiers of strength to weight ratios for the various types of hiking/climbing/backpacking/camping activities.

My only other thought is that reddit isn't exactly set up for a gear reviewing format, as it is a little hard to search or categorize things.

Any thoughts on how to avoid these problems?

And lastly, what do you think about sales websites posting their own products. It will happen. How do you plan to sort the "hay from the chaff"?

Oh god, thank you. That makes things so much nicer looking.

(edit) I replaced the couple on this sidebar. And a bunch on campingandhiking.

How many of you campers pack a weapon? by jasontimmurin CampingandHiking

[–]greenearthbuild 1 point2 points ago

Congrats, this is probably the most commented article ever here :)

Never packed anything but a knife. I don't think it's wrong to carry, if they are careful. I feel that most animals can be dealt with fairly easily, without resorting to shooting. Could be nice to hunt some game if you knew what you were doing though.

Any Grocery store workers? by puskinin collapse

[–]greenearthbuild 4 points5 points ago

I have been reading a good book on grocery retailing called Inside the Mind of the Shopper. I don't have experience in a big operation.

But in general, people buy only about 200 products a year, with 80 being regular products. A typical grocery store has almost 50,000 products, although there are a set of maybe 100 that really sell well. Brands actually pay the grocery stores to carry whole lines of products. That stipend actually accounts for the largest chunk of their profits.

I would say produce shrinks at about 5-10% inside a store. Every step of the process has waste though.

You should just go check it out for yourself. You will likely find piles of pastries, bread, veggies, fruit...could be anything. As long as you don't make a mess, most employees don't care.

Any Grocery store workers? by puskinin collapse

[–]greenearthbuild 2 points3 points ago

Yes. I have helped pick up leftover produce & have dumpstered from grocery stores, and they throw out a lot of produce. Or they donate it to food pantries/churches/etc. Most of it is still good, or at worst has a small visual blemish. I know the statistics are out there, but it's something like 1/4 of food is wasted by the time it gets to consumers. Wikipedia says in the US we waste 650 lbs of food per person

Climbing wall death in UK due to knot failure by NickColtonin climbing

[–]greenearthbuild 7 points8 points ago

The only major injuries in our local climbing wall's 10 year history have been recent falls due to incomplete figure 8 knots. And both accidents involved people who had climbed for years.

Always double check your and your partners knots and carabiner.

River cottage by Montypylonin pics

The one hole on the river side hints that it may have been a mill or other waterwheel powered building. So they would have wanted no openings on that side other than for the shaft.

Soy Milk estrogen does not work like human estrogen, FYI. I had heard that too many years back, but I believe it has been dispelled.

Does anyone know where I can buy Norwegian/ English readers? by flyingkangarooin Norway

[–]greenearthbuild 2 points3 points ago

Sorry I didn't see this right away.

There is a small publishing company called Astri My Astri Publishing that publishes several bilingual books. Look especially at The Boys from Vangen or Kings of Norway. They both have the english over the norwegian on the same page.
