Hey man, really proud of you. That's an incredible accomplishment. In case you ever feel low again, your department is required by law to have counseling services available to you. This is a great (free) resource. Most of the time it's run by other medics/ firemen that have gone through similar things. PM me if you ever want to chat.

Fireman here. You're right. Police and fire dispatch offices are usually in the same building, if not room. I know this is the case for DCFD and MPD. Even if they aren't, police are dispatched on the initial assignment for fires so they can provide traffic control or start an preliminary investigation.

Most departments have a critical incident stress management program (CISM). This is a great resource. Most, if not all of your coworkers have seen pretty messed up stuff and are also good resources to utilize if you need it.
