Vagrant items: can I just drop the junk I don't want to spawn more of them? by gosassinin darksouls

[–]gosassin[S] 2 points3 points ago

True, and I've been doing that too, but if dropping them creates more awesome variety of gameplay in the form of rare enemies appearing in other worlds, that seems better to me for the community as a whole.

I've beaten the 2 gargoyle bosses, rang the first bell, back at the start off point (after being dropped there by the crow) Where do i go now? by Blahkahin darksouls

You need a divine weapon to kill the skeletons permanently, or find the necromancer that revives them and kill him. The necromancers stay dead even after resting at a bonfire. You could get a divine weapon and do the Catacombs, but that would be a pretty tough row to hoe at your level. My recommendation would be to tackle the Lower Undead Burg next, and then the Depths. You can access the Lower Undead Burg by going back to the area where you first encountered Solaire and going into the door that's directly across from the door you exited after defeating the Taurus Demon.

Explain to me like I'm five: how do Character and World Tendencies work in Demon's Souls? (Posting here because the community is more helpful and active than /r/demonssouls.) by Wolfmanateein darksouls

Yeah, pretty much unobtainable unless there's a server event orchestrated by From. I've heard they've done it in the past for Valentine's Day, but AFAICT there's no prior warning about such events; you get a notification that the server has changed when you log into the game, and nothing else. If it does change, I'm sure /r/demonssouls will have a post about it.

Cool, I didn't know that about invading. Sadly, when I was playing there was very little online activity.

No, you can definitely be summoned to help someone beat a boss you yourself have already conquered. I've farmed tens of thousands of souls helping others beat the Gaping Dragon and Iron Golem, after I beat them myself. You do have to be within a certain SL range of the summoner for them to see your summon sign, though. So, if you want to farm souls doing that, it's important not to level yourself up until you know you're completely done farming. Otherwise you'll level yourself right out of the range to be summoned for that boss, and will have to move on to another boss.

While this is generally the case, last night Beatrice put a hurting on the Four Kings for me during our fight!

This is where I ran into trouble: I died a few times in human form, then beat the boss, but the positive effect of the boss' death wasn't enough to get me to PWWT. I was almost there, but not quite. Very frustrating!

Correct, but by the time you need to worry about world tendencies, you'll be nearly finished with the game and can travel back to the various worlds, at your leisure, and with a much more powerful character. You'll also have a good stash of SoEEs at that point, too. Right now you just need to concentrate on surviving, upgrading weapons/stats, and having shitloads of fun. It's a fantastic game and I think you're going to love the hell out of it.

Also, you're welcome!

Durr, just realized the mistake I made: killing the phantoms will actually move you back toward white tendency, just like killing a boss will. However, it doesn't take effect 'til you go back to the Nexus and re-enter the world. So, what you want to do is suicide from human state 'til you get to PBWT, then kill all the phantoms and the Primeval Demon before you go back to the Nexus. Otherwise, you're going to have to suicide some more to keep your PBWT.

Getting to PWWT is very hard because you essentially can't die from human form, and the only reason I did it was becuase From changed the servers so everyone had PWWT during Christmas as a Christmas present to the players. If you kill the bosses and turn human, you can suicide in the Nexus by jumping off a high platform, and it won't affect the world tendency.

Really, there's so little online PVP activity now that staying human doesn't make much sense, especially once you get the Cling Ring to get you back to 75% health while in soul form.

Edit: regarding Stone of Ephemeral Eyes farming, this page has a lot of good info, but also a lot spoilers about the events in the game. I suggest reading it after you complete the game, or at least after you've conquered all the archstones.

If you're really trying to manipulate the world tendency, you're going to want to play offline. When you log into the servers, the game is influenced by the tendency of all the other games on the server, so if you're trying to get to PBWT (Pure Black World Tendency) but the majority of the games on the server lean towards white, or vice versa, you'll have a hard time of it influencing your game. See this page on the wiki for more detail. Offline, kill yourself 5-6 times from human state and voila, PBWT achieved. However, that's only for that world; the others are unaffected so you'll have to suicide or kill the black phantoms in each one to get to PBWT there.

Regarding the guy you encountered, I think you're talking about Ostrava of Boletaria. Don't worry, he'll turn up again later. Here's a link if you want to know more.

He's actually complimenting Tarkus, in response to flea_17's comment that human players are generally better than non-playable characters in boss fights. Of course we all know that Tarkus is a bad mofo.

Is it just me, or are the bastard anor londo archers' arrows homing? by rust2bridgesin darksouls

You can wear the wolf ring, turtle your way out to the right archer, and he'll knock himself off the ledge due to overly vigorous sword swinging.

Sen's Fortress by millimo140in darksouls

[–]gosassin 0 points1 point ago

Did you find the bonfire? That makes it much more manageable. Once you've gotten onto the roof, go up the first two sets of stairs, turn right, and then drop off the edge and you'll land on a platform with the bonfire. You have to dodge or block the firebombs from the golem to get there. There'll probably be orange markers down to show you where it is, too.

Dragon Greatsword by Yeti47in darksouls

[–]gosassin 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, it scales a bit with Strength. You can check the weapons on the wiki.. The letters under the column "Stat Bonuses" tell you how it specs out. See Silidus' post here for more detail.

Dragon Greatsword by Yeti47in darksouls

[–]gosassin 1 point2 points ago

Nope, it doesn't scale with stats, unfortunately. However, pumping 10 dragon scales into it will get it up into the mid-500's for damage.

Halo will always be a 360-only title, as it is now produced by 343 Industries and Microsoft Gaming Studios. Bungie has become independent, but they have nothing to do with the franchise anymore.

search for the "mud chan damage calculator" for dark souls (he did one for demon's souls also). that's the closest thing you will find.

There's a link to it in the sidebar. Also here.

I dunno; I'm SL73 and just beat S&O last night with the help of a couple other Jolly Co-oppers. There were a ton of signs laid down at the Solaire bonfire inside Anor Londo.

I know I'm very late to the party, but I think I'm finally man enough to play Demon Souls. Any last minute advice for me? by JustDarrenin PS3

[–]gosassin 0 points1 point ago

I suggest playing the first stage of the first archstone (Boleteria Castle) then the first stage of the second archstone (Burrow King), and proceed up and around the stairs in a clockwise manner 'til you get back to Boleteria, then do the second stage, etc.
