Deadmau5 vs DJ PaulyD - Who Knew Guido's Could Troll? by masterhanin electronicmusic

21 out of the 25 submissions on this sub's frontpage are song links. No need to get heated.

Detroit Mayor declares May 20th-26th Detroit Techno Week by eloiein electronicmusic

That's not a very high bar.

Interesting data point: /r/harrypotter mod told me, "image posts being upvoted higher = the community likes them better." Yet when they went text-only for a week, the community universally loved it. by PotRoastPotatoin TheoryOfReddit

[–]gentlebot 2 points3 points ago

I disagree. Enacting a self posts only rule means that you're favoring discussion at the expense of aggregating interesting links, which is the original intent of the site. One compromise that may work is banning image macros. This way fan art, which I'm sure The Last Airbender fandom has plenty of and often does spark insightful conversations just as well as self posts and articles, can be submitted while any macros can likely be reworded as self posts. Another solution that's recently proved successful in /r/electronicmusic and /r/trance is to only allow images in self posts, although I personally wouldn't find that palatable for inherently visually intensive topics like TV shows.

That's only half of it. The full story was that he had terminal cancer and was going to commit assisted suicide via Oregon's Death with Dignity Act.

Redditor stalks another Redditor over a girl, showdown occurs in MLPlounge by xDizzyin SubredditDrama

[–]gentlebot 2 points3 points ago

Just FYI, I wasn't talking about only arrow to the knee jokes; there are scores of other Skyrim references and jokes out there. You're comparing an entire fandom (MLP: FiM) to one single line (arrow to the knee). They tire at very different rates.

Another point I think I should make is how many new recruits the MLP fandom gets on a daily basis. We're growing rapidly and as such jokes and references that are worn to veterans are novel and hilarious to the dozens of newcomers we get each day. The newbies also go through something of a honeymoon period in which they're much more vocal than seasoned bronies. I imagine a disproportionate number of the fans that bother you are newer ones.

Redditor stalks another Redditor over a girl, showdown occurs in MLPlounge by xDizzyin SubredditDrama

[–]gentlebot 2 points3 points ago

reddit and every other web community I lurk or take part in has been laden with Skyrim references and in-jokes for months since it came out. Likewise, Arrested Development references and proselytizing fans are far from contained to the show's own sub. Rather, I don't think there's one subreddit I've visited where I haven't seen someone say "there's always money in the banana stand". I guess my question is why reserve resentment exclusively for the MLP fandom?

The studio bought the rights to the game, so it's still technically based on it, albeit in the very loosest sense of the word.

What the hell is Kenneth anyhow? I've never quite been able to piece together the references to his immortality, his allusions to Jacob, and all the other weird stuff he says.

Mobile banking in Africa [OS][595x588] by ThisExactSituationin MapPorn

[–]gentlebot 4 points5 points ago

When you think about it's a very good indicator of general development. Mobile bank payments reflect a working system of cell towers and a population that can afford both phones and whatever they happen to be paying for via those phones.

I don't know why everyone slams TIL so much. Sure, it has some egregious reposts and people who submit things with an agenda in mind, but overall I think it's one of the better defaults and is one of the few I'm still subscribed to.

I feel noon EST is best. The east coast is on its lunch break, the west coast is just beginning their work day, and the Midwest has hit the mid-morning lull.

David is definitely considered historically significant in the West, where the standard 4 suit 52 card deck was invented.
