TROPHY CASE

As a married man with two kids and cannot afford a new pc for the foreseeable future, this will be my version of Diablo 3, and I'm okay with that by dispatcher_83in gaming

What percentage of people actually play over LAN? It's gotta be less than 1% of 1%. As such, it is something most people, including me, just don't care about.

I disagree, wolf spiders are pretty docile.

Also, there is no reason a wolf spider bite is more likely to get infected than any other spider bite. A wolf spider bite doesn't cause necrosis.

With a record you get however long you want to make it sound good

Or, in most cases, however long you can afford.

Some sort of scarab (a type of beetle). First guess would be june bug, but not sure.

Damn, jealous. At my U, to even get near the EMs you have to go through extensive training.

A grad student in my lab takes all sorts of amazing shots, mostly of microtubules with different motor proteins.

Meanwhile, I'm stuck looking at green dots near red dots in the TIRF (which is still really damn cool, and I get to look in vivo).

What we really need is more drugs to treat HIV infection. (No, what we need is to make the current drugs cheaper, to come up with a good vaccine, and a solid prevention strategy.)

Well, isn't one of the reasons a vaccine is so difficult to make is because surface protein genes evolve so quickly as to make drugs that recognize single, specific antigens not very worthwhile? While multi-drug combos might be better off due to the whole exponential difficulty of evolving in the response to multiple selective pressures?

Granted, this still isn't really an argument against a vaccine, more an argument about the difficulty of making a vaccine.

My girlfriend is being destroyed by her birth control. We need your help! by mirrislegendin women

[–]forever_erratic 1 point2 points ago

My wife tried Mirena for about three years before ditching it and going back to pill birth control.

The problem was that, despite so many assurances to the contrary, there were some sexual positions (e.g. her sitting in my lap facing me with her legs around me) where she could feel it on each thrust. As this included her favorite position, in the end it wasn't worth it.

While not in the majority, this does occur with a significant number of IUD users.

I think it is perfectly justified to judge people on the choices they've made, rather than circumstances they had no control over.

What else are we supposed to judge people on?

I have no problem with it, although as you said the baby comparison is weird.

However, I do find it interesting that it really only works and sounds "empowering" when describing a vagina. Any statement using genitalia as a metaphore, I like to consider what it would be like if the opposite sex's genitalia was used instead. In this case, I think it'd be pretty weird, and may even come across as masculine to a negative extreme.

Factorial split-plot design help by DigestingGandhiin AskStatistics

[–]forever_erratic 0 points1 point ago

I think I can help you partway - I can show you how to do a regular split plot ANOVA in R with a single whole-plot factor, but I'm not sure exactly how to assign error of a factorial whole-plot factor.

So your whole plot factors (the treatments applied to the whole plots) are nutrient addition and clipping.

The within-plot factors (the treatments applied within each whole plot replication) are the plant species.

Let's pretend that your whole-plot factors are not factorial and that instead, you have nine different treatments, collectively called "nutriclipping." To look at the effect of nutriclipping, and the split-plot effect of plant species, and the interaction of plant species and nutriclipping, on methane emission in R, you'd use:

aov(methane ~ nutriclipping + Error(trough/nutriclipping) + species*nutriclipping)

The first error term should be the whole plot error, and the remaining error (which doesn't need to be explicitly defined) should be the split plot error.

I'm not sure how to add the other factor in here. My first thought would be to try something like this:

aov(methane ~ nutrient*clipping + Error(trough/nutrient:clipping) + species*nutrient*clipping)

My thinking here is that the whole plot error should be the interaction of nutrient and clipping nested within the troughs, but I'm not sure.

Write me back and let me know if this works!

Hey, nice videos! I watched them all - I'm okay with about the first 2/3 of OChem, so can't wait until you get to later stuff. I'm sure it will be good because these were very clear and concise.

By the way, awhile back I made a (music) video to help myself memorize 1-10 and a couple of other little things. It might be useful:

Object Extraction and Recognition in Simulink by TheHamburgler4in matlab

[–]forever_erratic 0 points1 point ago

Hmm.

So, the shapes are not round. Another thing I'd try is threshold by (1) ratio of length:width and (2) degree of roundedness (which can be found using regionprops:eccentricity). Both of these attributes should be known for the suits. Does this make sense?

Cool project!

Object Extraction and Recognition in Simulink by TheHamburgler4in matlab

[–]forever_erratic 1 point2 points ago

Could you also have size thresholds?

Additionally, you know there will be a minimum non-object border around the suits (because of the white boards) - could you use this as a another way to categorize?

I think his voice is forced. It doesn't sound like his voice is naturally low - it sounds like he is always singing at the very edge of his range.

Leonard Cohen, Everybody knows by Arkburnin Music

[–]forever_erratic 1 point2 points ago

I'm 30, pretty familiar with him.

I don't particularly care for his music -it sounds rather elevator-music-y to me, with the cheesy synths, very straight drums, and backup vox. That said, I respect his music alot, and find it incredible when performed by others.
