Just started working for public school a few months ago. Amongst my peers: Alcoholics, people who can't spell words like "professional", former junkies, current drug enthusiasts, people who let their drinking affect their job performance, and bros like myself who don't know the first thing about teaching.

There's some that happen to be good teachers though.

I don't really care too much, I consider myself quite low status as an English teacher, but they pay me too much to do too little for me to give a shit.

If i scored the job you had, I'd be getting paid way too much to give a fuck. I mean you were here 3 years and you're married so I understand that you got jaded and shit, but I'm still in the honeymoon phase, plus Busan is a great city to live in.

Dude I agree that Korea is a shitty place in many ways, just not for my particular situation (i want to say unique, but it doesnt feel unique when 99% of foreigners are english teachers).

I'd def not turn down the same job/PPP in any of those countries. Korea smells like shit, the women don't shave their pussies, and the food is uncreative and laden with too much sugar and MSG. Thankfully I live a low-carb lifestyle so the meat and veggies / cheap street food fits my life well.

As far as things unique to Korea that I really dig? Hmm......well I'd say the plethora of arcades and the transit infrastructure. But koreans are too good at tekken so it kinda fucks up the experience a bit.

I don't give a fuck if they exist in the US, mars, or your balls. They exist in S Korea for my life, and are a significant reason for why I like living here.

If you want to talk about life in S korea for an average s korean and not an expat, that's different. From what I've gathered, that's thoroughly shitty if you weren't born handsome/tall/pretty/rich.

edit: I mean it sucks everywhere to not be born that way, but it sucks extra extra hard in S Korea i think.

I've been here 3 months (Busan). I like the high purchasing power parity, the favorable work /wage ratio, and the jihachul.

I feel like an overpaid leech, but i imagine most public sector does, some just stop feeling guilty about it.

Thanks for posting this, I find it interesting. The summaries of Korean people I've heard so far are that they are first and foremost shallow and more conformist than any other country in the world. Secondly, unhappy.
