FBI Entrapment Is Inventing 'Terrorists' by zzill6in occupywallstreet

[–]fietsvrouw 5 points6 points ago

I looked up the legal definition of entrapment, and it seems to fall under that category. The legal dictionary defines it as such: "entrapment n. in criminal law, the act of law enforcement officers or government agents to induce or encourage a person to commit a crime when the potential criminal expresses a desire not to go ahead. The key to entrapment is whether the idea for the commission or encouragement of the criminal act originated with the police or government agents instead of with the "criminal." Entrapment, if proved, is a defense to a criminal prosecution. The accused often claims entrapment in so-called "stings" in which undercover agents buy or sell narcotics, prostitutes' services, or arrange to purchase goods believed to be stolen." In this case, the agents pressured people for months to commit a crime. I do believe they are still culpable for giving in, but what these agents are doing is its own crime...

I am Robert Briscoe, the artist behind indie game Dear Esther AMA by RobertBriscoein IAmA

I really enjoyed the game. I am an avid gamer, but I actually recommended it to a couple of friends as a first gaming experience. One of them is the director of a non-profit institute for cancer patients. She may beinterested in finding a way to make the game available on the institutes website to allow patients to have an immersive experience that helps to distract them from the pain and anxiety that they are experiencing. Do you think you would be open to working with a non-profit to help them find a way to make the game accessible to a closed group of registered patients?

Please remember Reddiquette by insanitymousein harrypotter

[–]fietsvrouw 1 point2 points ago

It is nice to see a reminder, even if the people who don't observe that part of Reddiquet are not likely to care. I have long since stopped posting on Reddit on certain topics. I categorically don't say anything against animal cruelty, or post anything about Mass Effect, good or bad. It don't like the fact that I often don't post something that I think is fair or that contributes something because of this. Plus, it just doesn't feel very good.

Reddit, I recently tried to break free from the chains of the "friendzone". Any funny stories that could mend a young warriors wounds? by FreakDuBrowin AskReddit

[–]fietsvrouw 0 points1 point ago

I don't know any funny stories about that, but I can tell you as a woman that not un-friend-zoning someone is not a statement on how awesome the guy is. It is just a matter of biological attraction and you know biology - it is unpredictable, uncontrollable and also includes rashes and zits. You will find something much better, friend.

New Police Strategy in NYC - Sexual Assault Against Peaceful Protesters: “Yeah so I screamed at the [cop], I said, ‘you grabbed my boob! what are you, some kind of fucking pervert?’ So they took me behind the lines and broke my wrists.” by maxwellhillin politics

[–]fietsvrouw -1 points0 points ago

Do you have a link to the source of these statistics and the way in which those figures were established? I have to remain skeptical because unless there is video and that video is reviewed, the source of the information would have to be self-reporting by the police themselves in most cases.

I agree that there is a silent element, (maybe even a majority), but that is because you don't report what is functioning correctly. I do think that there is a system-wide problem, however, when you see groups of police officers doing the kinds of things we have seen in videos recently - shooting unarmed, prone suspects, beating people and then fabricating self-defense stories, using violence against unarmed and non-violent protestors. If law enforcement were not pervaded by a culture that supports or at the very least protects those who engage in that behavior, we would not see so much of it.

I don't imagine that the good officers can really step forward and complain if the culture is protecting it. My friend from high school eventually left the force because being gay, he was treated horrifically including not being provided backup when he called for it. He felt that is life was in danger and he said he dd not have any recourse other than to take the matter outside to the judicial system. He saw that as a losing proposition given the fact that his supervisors were aware of how he was being treated, and instead, he changed careers.

I had a similar experience with a friend from high school who became a police officer. I am sure there are some who actually join because they think they can make a difference (never mind the fact that choosing police work over social work already speaks volumes), but I cannot imagine that they can sustain it in that particular work environment. It also draws people with fantasies of power, and people who want to behave above thew law but not have to pay the consequences a criminal has to pay. I used to respect the police. Now I see good cops as an anomaly. I know they are there, I am glad they are there, but they do not represent law enforcement.

Police in Minnesota have been caught on video picking up teens, doing drug experiments on them, and then dropping them off at the local Occupy protest to discredit the movement. by blandz87in occupywallstreet

[–]fietsvrouw 14 points15 points ago

It sounds like something law enforcement would do. They have a long history if infiltrating popular movements and then attempting to instigate violence. I have to see better substantiation before I believe this claim though.

[–]fietsvrouw 31 points32 points ago

I would love to see substantiation too, but at the same time, it does not surprise me that the mainstream media has not picked this up. Think about all of the crap that has happened that was only reported decades later. The fact that it doesn't make mainstream media is not a real disqualifier...

As a cop that worked the May Day protests (and many others) I have the following recommendations: by CopThoughtin politics

[–]fietsvrouw 1 point2 points ago

Actually many pf the people joining the protests are the most disenfranchised, meaning the homeless, and impoverished, many of whom also suffer from mental illness. This is in part because the movement has been providing coats and food etc. They are also joined by professors and clergy and doctors, lawyers etc. who have worn their Sunday best. The condition of the economy that "wanting" a job is not enough. Many people have put vast effort into the job search process and have turned nothing up. This includes students who have just graduated etc. Your "Sunday best" when you have been out of work is not going to be all that posh. Forcing people without the means to "dress up" to protest in order to curry favour with those who live in a bubble believing that those who want a job get a job is not productive or realistic. Propagating the myth that protestors are being beaten because of their appearance is not helpful.

My bad. I thought you were actually interested in having a discussion since you claimed to be interested and requested references. I provided you with a long list of them. Now I see that you have an axe to grind and are just wasting my time. By the way "Thank you for posting the links I requested" would have been the correct answer.

Actually homeopathy dilutes a substance that in a higher dose causes a reaction or illness in order to illicit an immune response from the body and help it to respond on its own (hence the prefix meaning "of the same kind"). It is extremely helpful for things that elicit an immune response like allergies. You cannot water something down until it no longer exists and not a single molecule remains. Divide anything by half repeatedly and try to get to 0... Your view on this is misinformed.

So what's the deal with Wedding Photographers? by SamReidnin AskReddit

[–]fietsvrouw 3 points4 points ago

I think that weddings are probably the event that most frequently needs a professional photographer where a freelancer could get jobs. The name doesn't mean they only shoot weddings - it means that they have the skills to reliably do the job (or want you to think they do). I bill myself as a legal translator when I am looking for jobs in my specialization, but I translate many other things and in other contexts call myself a translator. I think it is the same deal with the photographers.
