TROPHY CASE

Look at this shitty drawing I made! Upvotes to the LEFT! by ohblairin circlejerk

I don't really like your drawing, but if you said 'Hey reddit' I think I would have. Still upvoted though, do you sell prints?

Nothing much, just flying near downtown LA at 2000 ft on a clear Saturday evening. by SpeedbirdTK1in LosAngeles

I do the same thing. Here's one I took flying out of LA. Very strange colors from the window but I like it.

Next time I would try shooting with just a slightly faster shutter speed for sharper image, raw files if you're not already, and pushing the exposure just a little further in post to make up for it. The noise doesn't look too bad to me, just a bit of trails on the lights.

Watching the last 40 minutes of Cabin In The Woods... by metalninjacakein movies

[–]feelsgoodman -8 points-7 points ago

I agree with this too, though I did really enjoy watching. But I do think it's getting more credit than it deserves for being so brilliant and creative. Really, the genre is extremely easy to spoof, their reasons are fairly simple (spoilers ahead) - ok, horror movies are constructed by 'guys in a control room with unlimited knobs and cameras everywhere who brainwash people into fitting the cliches.' Basically, guys with knobs. The whole sacrifice thing never felt that true to me, never really bought the massive chamber with blood dripping into engravings. There were a handul of loose ends and flaws in itself. As I said, had fun watching, but it's not perfect just because it's self aware and fun. The fact that people are getting downvoted so hard here for expressing their opinions is a bit absurd. Apparently every time the movie is brought up on reddit we need to engage in a circlejerk over how great it is because we get the joke.

Watch the trailer for Samsara, from the makers of Baraka, shot entirely in 70MM... WOW. In theaters August 24th, 2012. by MD786in movies

[–]feelsgoodman 2 points3 points ago

There are still huge benefits to shooting on 70mm - particularly in the scale of the shots you get with such a large frame. The lenses create such beautiful epic images. Such wide shots but with shallow focus and no warping.. I love it. It's so much sharper, absolutely pristine transfers to bluray, the shots are generally more composed due to the size of the cameras, you can really feel the larger space. Baraka (which was shot in 70mm) is one of the most gorgeous films I've ever seen, even just on bluray. So theatrical screenings aside, 70mm cameras are still incredible when they're used.

All that said, maybe no IMAX conversions but I'm sure they'll still have a handful of legit 70mm screenings in larger cities. (Baraka still screens in 70mm maybe twice a year in LA.)

I think I speak for everyone in the rest of the world when I say we've never heard of, seen, or even imagined a bread bowl.

Geekscape is throwing a screening of The FP, but we can only do it if we get to 50 people. It's a hilarious movie about the future where people fight each other with Dance Dance Revolution. by briangilmorein LosAngeles

[–]feelsgoodman 2 points3 points ago

For those who are unsure, here's the first 12 min.

It takes a while to get used to how intentionally camp it really is, but by the end I had warmed up. As OP said, looks like a fun one to see in theaters.

Shave: Lightweight Video Editing for OS X by safetywerdin apple

[–]feelsgoodman 1 point2 points ago

I've been using QTP7 for years for simple quick trimming like this - but yeah, it's really dated and limited functionality. And with Apples move towards the massively stripped down QTX, most people probably don't even have QTP7 on their system anymore or realize it could even be used to edit. And clearly, Shave is more optimized for it anyways. I haven't tried this yet, but I absolutely understand it's value compared to iMovie. Looks like a great program. If people don't 'get it', then they're just not the type of person it's made for.

This has been bothering me for years by preshitin apple

[–]feelsgoodman 2 points3 points ago*

The screen and sensitivity and precision is amazing, it's really just as simple as Apple slightly tweaking the element layout so the previous / pause / next buttons are further apart. I listen to tons of podcasts, which means lots of pausing and not wanting to lose my place, and these buttons being so close together get me all the time if I'm quickly tapping around.

Let's talk video formats, converting, players. by supersirdaxin kindlefire

[–]feelsgoodman 0 points1 point ago*

For those of you with macs - Get 'Miro video converter' in the app store. It's free and works really well for converting files for kindle / ios.

I've tried lots of these, and this couldn't make it easier. It's literally drag and drop, chose the output format you want from a list, and it makes it. You don't have to deal with technical bitrate / ratio stuff, but it's just so simple and quick, and the files look great.

As for video players on Kindle - I've tried a lot of these too, and honestly from what I've seen, they're all goddamn terrible. I stick to the stock 'gallery' app, which isn't quite so nice either, but it works.

Silver Lake is Paradise by jpfmackin LosAngeles

[–]feelsgoodman 1 point2 points ago

Serious. Ive been thinking of moving that way, heard generally good things about silverlake, and everyone here is shitting all over it. At the same time, 'paradise' is a pretty bold way to describe anywhere. I bet if someone took a rubbish pic and said 'Silverlake: LA's shithole,' the thread would have a different tune.

I just saw Apocalypse Now for the first time. In this age of CGI, I can't remember the last time I was this impressed with a scene. by PANCAKE_TIMEin movies

[–]feelsgoodman 7 points8 points ago

Missing the point a bit if you're comparing Transformers to Apocalypse Now. They're flying a dozen helicopters over acres of exploding sets here, not building action in a computer. In other scenes you have helicopters, boats, explosions, smoke, bombs, jets drooping bombs during takes, blowing up a forest, hundreds of extras running all over for long extended shots.. It's insane. You don't see stuff like this anymore. Most 'epic' scenes these days rely on greenscreen and computer effects and shooting on closed sound stages to make the production feel larger than it was, but in Apocalypse, it was really that huge.

Just look at everything going on during this monologue. The scale of this stuff is much more impressive to me than cutting edge cgi.

Donations made by President Obama in 2011 by Orangutanin politics

[–]feelsgoodman 0 points1 point ago

Well, it's comparing obamas donations to a random fact that Romney has low taxes.. Compare Romney's donations to obamas if you want to see who's more charitable, but his tax rates don't say anything about what he does with that money. It's just spinning two facts against eachother like a bad campaign slam commercial.

About Twisted Metal, curious how it ended up being just you to direct solo, and if you guys plan on splitting off for more future projects, or continue to work together, or a handful of both. etc etc.
