How do you create this text effect in CSS? by tuanomsokin web_design

[–]euphoniumatemydingo 1 point2 points ago

FF supports background-clip, but I believe it only supports "border-box", "padding-box", and "content-box".

There is 'background-clip: text', but as of now, I believe it only works in webkit browsers and with the '-webkit' prefix. The general idea is you take text with a transparent background, clip the background to the text (which means another possibility for a text gradient) and apply a text shadow lighter than the background (if you're using a dark background). The dark background shows through underneath the lighter text shadow, creating the aforementioned effect.

Anyway, since it's the middle of the night and I'm supposed to be working on other things, I decided to make a slight variation with inset text if anyone wants to look at the code. http://jsfiddle.net/jessieschalles/TMKcj/2/

TLDR: possible in css, but not widely supported
