Metal Albums that come out this week. 5/18-5/25 by Metal_Correctionsin Metal

[–]endlessamy 1 point2 points ago

Thats what i thought at first, but its just their 15th anniversary compilation album with a few older songs and like 2 new ones.

I had one of those 'what???.... oh.. oh ok' moments when i read the title and then looked up what it was.

i would suggest:

  • Gorgoroth
  • Moonspell
  • Windir
  • Sanctity - This is just suggestion because they are kinda like older Arch Enemy. They only produced one album and they aren't that great.
  • and In Flames is good too. Some say the newer In Flames stuff is better, but I like the older albums.

I hope to someday be as metal as these sisters when I get older. Ann and Nancy Wilson are still so beautiful and awesome at 60 (roughly)!

You should get the valley advocate every week. It is a good source for local events.

Opeth and Mastodon are coming to my town soon...been a long time Opeth fan, but.....What Mastodon should I check out before the show? by scissormetimbers1138in Metal

I saw that concert last night in Boston, MA. Ghost, Mastodon and Opeth put on an amazing show. Mastodons set list consisted of songs from the album "The Hunter" and a few older ones.

Also, you will not be disappointed by Ghost. They have an excellent stage presence.

o.O why would you think a total stranger would acknowledge you or bother you if you look busy? this just seems like a silly rant.

I'm in that class this semester. Prof. Tuck is probably one of the best professors on campus.

Women and Metal by MortParChocolatin Metal

[–]endlessamy 4 points5 points ago

well... for starters I would say that i am a serious metalhead and I am a woman. I've been a part of the metal scene for about 7 years and i haven't met many women who were into metal as much as i am.

I personally grew up in the country and had to be tough (my dad is a carpenter and we make maple syrup) and i had to do a lot of hard labor. So when i was introduced to metal by my brother, i instantly fell in love and it was easy for me to enter the scene because i was already pretty masculine.

I go to metal concerts all the time with my friend (who is male) and it is a sad sight to see that i am one out maybe 10 women in the venue. And most of the women are girlfriends. I defy all expectations really and that is why women generally don't enter the metal scene. it is just too stressful to be constantly ridiculed for who you are.

The main issue really is the gendered stereotypes. women are expected to be feminine, while men are expected to be masculine. So when a woman wants to be a part of the metal scene, it becomes 10x harder to do so compared to men. For example, wearing masculine clothing is not really excepted on a woman. Women are supposed to be pretty and sexy and when you wear masculine clothing you are constantly bombarded with other people saying that your outfit looks ridiculous and you need to change it becomes stressful to continue dressing this way and it is really upsetting. On the other hand, when you really enjoy listening to metal and you want to wear a band shirt a woman may feel obligated to change the shirt to look sexier and then male metal heads don't take you seriously. It's a double edged sword really.

Gendered stereotypes are really interesting. i would suggest taking a woman studies class (if you are in college). I know the stigma about it is that its all about male hating extreme women, but thats not really true. The issue of male stereotypes is one of the subjects women studies talks about, as well.

As a side note, women aren't really included when it comes to metal. Even on a small scale they aren't. So if you have a friend who is female, introduce them to metal or play metal when you're hanging out with them.
