What is something fucked up you think about often, but never tell anyone about? by DobyClarkin AskReddit

[–]elyse32 0 points1 point ago

I did when I was pretty little, I remember having reoccurring nightmares about it.

One of my friends feels this way too. I think he said something a bit older though, like 45 or something. He's 22.

Not only do most people not know they have it, but there is also period after contracting HIV that it doesn't show up when you're tested.

My sister has one. I always thought Beethoven exaggerated the slobber issue for a few laughs..it doesn't. They actually keep slobber rags around everywhere.

Why nobody has ever learned Icelandic by BoobsMcGooglinin funny

It's not the reason she went, but she decided to take a class while she was there. I think there was only one other person in her class or something.

One of my friends is learning Icelandic in Germany in German while on an exchange program from U.S. Seems super difficult.

Does anyone else find the Pledge of Allegiance to be kinda creepy? by chakalakaspin politics

[–]elyse32 0 points1 point ago

I never said it in school. I think I probably learned the words from films or maybe sports events? I have no idea. They didn't even recite it in our schools until my last year of high school when apparently some law was passed and they did it every morning over the intercom. Usually only one or two kids said it and if they stood everyone looked at them like they were crazy.

Is there anyone on Reddit who opposes gay marriage? If so, why? by doomsday_designin AskReddit

[–]elyse32 1 point2 points ago

My friends and I were talking about this the other day, we were thinking it would be smart to just come up with a new word completely, one that isn't attached to religion at all-even if many people don't see it as religious. Civil union is fine, but what's the verb? I'm joined? It isn't catchy, people won't say it. I was thinking that if I get a civil marriage I would want to call it something else and that if people ask if I'm married I could say, no, I'm....Maybe a little over the top, but this shit is ridiculous and I don't want my union with my husband to be associated with a religious union. Edit: after reading through all the comments I didn't realize it wasn't originally associated either.

What are some of the childish things that you do despite being adults? by Kouronin AskReddit

[–]elyse32 1 point2 points ago

Ukrainians legitimately say "superpooper" as something neat. My pupils say it and I can't help but burst out laughing every time. It's especially funny because no one else understands or thinks it's funny.

I totally read this as "Indiana Jones Style." I thought I had missed a major part in the movies. Does he crouch or sit funny? We just called this to sit cross-legged.

I don't understand how that implies it's an ethnicity, doesn't that prove that it's a religion? If I'm Arabic, my children will be Arabic whether or not my partner is and whether or not I am the mother or the father. I understand there are cultural and historical aspects connected to Judaism, but don't these differ from region to region? Don't Ashkenazic Jews have a different culture, history and ethnicity from Sephardic Jews? Can you be ethnically Jewish and not religiously Jewish? If you are born in Israel but not religious are you still considered ethnically Jewish? Are gentile children who were born from a Jewish man still considered ethnically Jewish?

you mean because your parents are Jewish you are? If one's parents are Mormon usually they raise their kids as mormons as well, so you sort of inherit Mormonism...

As an American going to Ukraine in a few weeks, what are some cultural gestures that I might need to know before I leave? by theMidstin ukraine

[–]elyse32 0 points1 point ago

don't make a closed fist and smack it against your other hand as some people do while they wait around in the U.S. or when they're gesturing a fight. In Ukraine this is a very sexual and rude gesture and can get you in trouble around women and their boyfriends.

Also never give an even number of flowers, they are reserved for funerals. Always give odd numbers, most people give 3 or 5 in a bouquet.

In Soviet Russia, Cashiers harass you! This is actually true for Ukraine in many cases. I always feel like I'm bothering them by trying to buy something from them.

This is sort of random but I noticed in another comment that you mentioned "Jewish" as an ethnicity. Why do you consider Judaism a ethnicity and not just a religion?

I was recently at an Operation Respect Training with Peter Yarrow and he sang this song and I was all nostalgic, but by the end I was nearly crying, I didn't remember how sad it was. I don't think I really listened to the words as a kid.
