We used to have a nice ocean front we always went to...the nice little single story pastel spots. I think there was a big buoy at the beginning of the drive. I miss those little houses, there is so much over-development, the north end is all HUGE places. That is the main reason we moved down to Hatteras. The south end of the island seems to retain more of the old school feel.
