Top 10 Most Annoying Mobs in Diablo 3 by Lambikin Diablo

[–]donquixote235 8 points9 points ago

I'm really surprised that not only was the Fallen Maniac not #1, but it wasn't even on the list. Though they only appear briefly in the game, they have the potential to be absolute hell on Hardcore players. They charge at you and then explode; if you accidentally run into a pack of them it can spell instant death for you unless you're really on your toes.

OSHA would have a field day.

I used to work in a furniture factory, and we had pallet jacks and forklifts all over the place. About once a year somebody would lose his leg below the knee because either he wasn't looking where he was going or the other guy didn't look where he was going.

Also about 3-5% of the workforce had missing fingers from industrial accidents. Sometimes it was their fault (being dumbasses and sticking their hands where they didn't belong) and other times it was the machine's fault (safety guard didn't snap into place properly). Usually it was a combination of the two... the worker was being a dumbass and the machine's anti-dumbass measures failed at the same time.

And the funny thing was that you'd never hear about these things on the news. The company was the largest employer in the area at the time, and the owner sat on the local city/county/hospital boards, and they contributed heavily to police/fire funds, so as a result you'd hear rumors floating around the office and that was about it.

I worked in IT, so I hung out in the safety of the office part of the factory... but every so often I'd have to go out onto the floor to install an update or try to track down a problem. I hated that job (but I stuck it out for five years anyway, because hey, money).

Why do you play Horde/Alliance? What compelled you to choose one faction over the other? by Hipster_Davein wow

[–]donquixote235 1 point2 points ago

This could be remedied by some good old fashioned goblin engineering. Install something similar to the Azshara rocketway with stopovers at the important points.

I agree with you though... when flying it's not a big deal, but for new characters without any kind of mount it's a major pain in the ass. For example to train mining and first aid you have to run literally from one end of the city to the other. And due to the way the city's designed it's not a straight shot... from the mining trainer you have to go through the valley of honor, through the zig-zag gateway into the drag, through the drag into the valley of strength, up a ramp, up another ramp, into the Jersey Shore area, and then on the other side of the lake to the first aid trainer.

No information is broadcast to other players that would allow them to clientside hack you, they have to hack the blizzard servers to get your login information.

Trust me, I was thinking "disgruntled ex-Blizzard employee". I did absolutely everything that should be done (shy of owning an authenticator) and still somebody got my account and sold all my stuff, leaving me naked in the streets of Dalaran.

I didn't think I needed an authenticator because I consider myself a very careful person when it comes to account security. Obviously now I own one and I swear by it.

Here's the breakdown of digsite rarity by continent:

Kalimdor:

  • Dwarf: 1.45%
  • Fossil: 18.84%
  • Night Elf: 50.72%
  • Troll: 5.8%
  • Tol'vir: 23.19%

Eastern Kingdoms:

  • Dwarf: 32.73%
  • Fossil: 23.64%
  • Nerubian: 3.64%
  • Night Elf: 3.64%
  • Troll: 36.36%

Outlands:

  • Draenei: 53.57%
  • Orc: 46.43%

Northrend:

  • Night Elf: 13.79%
  • Troll: 17.24%
  • Nerubian: 24.14%
  • Vrykul: 48.28%

Note that the percentages for Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms will be different if you don't have a high enough archaeology skill to find Tol'vir or Nerubian artifacts.

It is a bad idea for the following reason:

There are 69 digsites in Kalimdor, 16 of which are Tol'vir.

  • If you have three digs taken up by non-Tol'vir items, the fourth dig will have a 24.24% chance of being in Uldum. (16 in 66 chance)
  • If you have two non-Tol'vir digs and one Tol'vir dig, the fourth dig will have a 22.73% chance of being in Uldum. (15 in 66 chance)
  • If you have one non-Tol'vir dig and two Tol'vir digs, the fourth dig will have a 21.21% chance of being in Uldum. (14 in 66 chance)
  • If you have three digs taken up by Tol'vir items, the fourth dig will have a 19.7% chance of being in Uldum. (13 in 66 chance)

So in other words each dig you have queued up in Uldum reduces your chances of having the next one also be in Uldum by about 1.5%.

Moral of the story - hop on Uldum digs as soon as they come up (or at least as soon as is feasible).

I thought the same thing once. I'm an IT professional, and I'm not a moron when it comes to security. I was running fully patched and with antivirus in place, and I used a separate email and password for my Blizzard stuff. I didn't install any shady add-ons and I didn't share my password with anybody. I didn't respond to the in-game whispers from people pretending to be GMs. In other words I did everything you're supposed to do.

Yet I still got hacked. It took most of a day for me to get a hold of a GM to restore all my stuff to me, but I did get everything back.

Here's what I recommend:

  1. Log into Bnet and change your email address and password.
  2. Get on the phone with Blizzard and expect to be on hold for a very long time.
  3. While you're on hold, also submit a ticket from within the game.
  4. While you're waiting for step 2 or step 3 to pay off, get an authenticator.

Authenticators come in two varieties, each with their pros and cons:

  • The phone-based authenticator is nice because it's fast to implement - just install it and you're done - and it's free. The downside is if your phone decides to go tits-up and you hadn't stored your authenticator info in a different location, you'll have to contact Blizzard and get them to remove the authenticator from your account manually.
  • The keyfob authenticator costs $6.50 and you have to wait for it to ship (it took 2-3 days for mine to arrive). However it's self-contained so you don't have to worry about your phone crashing and locking you out of wow, and you also get a free in-game pet for ordering one (or at least you used to).

You can only have one authenticator tied to your account at a time, so if you choose one method it locks you out of the other one. I personally went for the keyfob.

The first handful of quests in Hyjal and in Vash'ir will give you starter greens as quest rewards. Muddle through the first few quests and you'll be fine.
