Reefers..How many times do you re-arrange your tanks? by ogSPLICEin Aquariums

[–]devouredbylogic 0 points1 point ago

After 8 months I have yet to rearrange my tank. I am only running a 12 gallon nano tank though, so there isnt much room to change things around.

Looks like you are off to a good start. What is the size of this tank? I would definitely suggest more rocks.

Straight guys: Would you be "comfortable" with a gay roommate? by mossner1992in AskReddit

[–]devouredbylogic 0 points1 point ago

As someone who lives in an apartment where I cannot comtrol who my roommates are I ended up with a gay roommate. I had been raised in a very conservative christian household so when I found out I was pretty uncomfortable with the situation. Turns out he is the best roommate I have ever had. Much cleaner then my previous roommates and cooks pretty damn good.

My newest addition, Tye Dye Zoanthids. by likemaugalin Aquariums

[–]devouredbylogic 0 points1 point ago

By 'stringy' do you mean just enlongated? If you have them in a high flow area they tend to grow longer. Some people do this on purpose to create new morphs.

Wow, those are some of the nicest zoanthids I have ever seen, did you get these from your LFS?

Beginner Saltwater Tips? by gentnerdrin Aquariums

[–]devouredbylogic 6 points7 points ago

Well, where do I begin? Saltwater cost much more then freshwater, mostly in initial setup since more things are required such as protien skimmers and lighting. Maintaining a tank is also a higher expense since every water change means making more saltwater. The larger the tank the more it cost but you are also gaining more stability, in nano tanks things must be maintained much more rigidly since it is a smaller water volume things can go downhill really quickly. Fish, corals and other livestock is almost always more expensive then saltwater. It is very important to research every type of fish and coral you plan on getting because many times they require different environments and may not be compatible.

My advice would be to to do some research and find out exactly what type of tank you want to have, if you can't afford to buy everything required at once start buying things you need to set up a tank as you can. Also, check craigslist you can find some great deals.

The absolute most import thing about saltwater is patience! Everything in saltwater takes time if you do it right. There is truely too much to talk about and cover in such a basic question, I could go on all day.

Strange, I can still see a shell underneath the legos. Cool and funny nonetheless.

My new long tentacle anemone. This thing is a beast! by smackfrogin Aquariums

[–]devouredbylogic 0 points1 point ago

How long have you had that condy?

Just used a Dremel grinder to remove an aiptasia anemone. by oval_volvoin Aquariums

[–]devouredbylogic 3 points4 points ago

I wouldn't go so far as to say that you shouldn't buy coral from them anymore. Aiptasia can become pretty bad if left untreated in an aquarium since the reproduce so rapidly. If you recieve one or two on a piece of rock or anything just hit them with some joe's juice or aiptasia-x. You simple feed it to the anemone through a syringe and it will dissolve right in front of your eyes.

SW aquarium lighting question!? by viper662in Aquariums

[–]devouredbylogic 0 points1 point ago

If you plan on keeping anemones be sure to understand their requirements, they usually require a pretty high output light. Metal Halides or a larger t5 HO. As a general rule for keeping corals and anemones you want 4-5 watts per gallon of water so for your 29 gallon tank the lighting set up you look for should be atleast around 120-150 watts. As far as cheapest, look around on your local craigslist. As a sidenote to keeping anemones, be sure to have a well established aquarium of atleast 3-6 months. Anemones are one of the more difficult things to keep in this hobby and if one happens to die on you they release toxins which can wipe out your whole tank.

I was drunk. Needed to pee. Took out one of my balls and peed in my pants. Any other stories like this? by e1ioanin AskReddit

[–]devouredbylogic 0 points1 point ago

Got drunk one evening with some friends and we decided that it would be a good time to go skateboarding. We came upon a storm drain, being the drunk over confident person I was I attempeted to kickflip over the drain. In mid flight over the drain the most unexpected explosion left my asshole. The night ended with me having to skate home drunk with shit running down my legs.

14g Nano Reef Has started! What do the gurus have to say? by G0nePhishinin Aquariums

[–]devouredbylogic 0 points1 point ago

Everything sounds like it is coming along good. Do you have any other test results such as nitrites and phosphates? When you go to your LFS tomorrow you should be fine getting a few snails and a peppermint shrimp. As far as corals go I would say in a couple days once you have confirmed your levels are all stable and good you could add some xenia.

Sounds like you have some diatoms starting to form. I am unsure as to why they are only on the coarser sand, though.
