Can someone explain to me what is happening here. by HoradricNoobin AskReddit

[–]danarbaugh 1 point2 points ago

That's my website. I was wondering why in the hell I was getting so many weird Reddit referrals. It turns out I forgot about that news subdomain CNAME DNS entry I set up about 3 years ago to test Reddit's short-lived hosted Reddit service. Apparently they forgot to blacklist some or all of those as valid hostnames to their site. I don't think there's much anyone nefarious could gain by exploiting that other than for SEO or something. Well, I could suddenly fix the subdomain and write a PHP to proxy all the content and only capture peoples passwords as they attempt to login from that Google result. Luckily, I'm not a dick, so that won't be happening.

This has never happened to me either. However, I work in a public computer lab and this happens to novice users ALL THE TIME. It's sometimes good to remember the majority of people aren't that good at navigating the Web, bros.

This perfectly explains why Skate 2 is better than Skate 3. The latter completely removed any type of local multi-player as EA wanted to force your friends to each buy their own copies. I can't get behind that.

Top Gear caught faking another electric car "failure" by mondaytuesdaywednesdin technology

Which guidelines?! They're not politically opposing electric cars. If you've watched the show, you'll know they recognize the automobile should adopt the use of electric motors instead of internal combustion. They were simply arguing the use of enormously expensive lithium-ion batteries that cannot be quickly charged are not a feasible form of energy storage in a real-world scenario. I don't know about you, but I can think of several times where I needed to run a few errands before leaving town on a short trip.

Hell, I love Nissan. I cannot wait to abandon gasoline as the power source for new vehicles. What scares me most about the article is their use of electronic monitoring devices. I'd think most redditors would dislike that, too. Stating their review was biased after hearing of a complaint made by a multi-national corporation is more than a bit hypocritical and short-sighted.

Oh wow, this totally changes those two cars from boring, silent, white goods to inspired works of exciting, passionate art.

Wait... no it doesn't. Nobody looks at Top Gear for objective figures and quantitative judgement. It's recognized as an editorial outlet to bemoan the lack of soul in the modern, mass-produced automobile. Only a blinded eco-terrorist would assume it is something else.

I just bought a Pandigital Novel because I was looking for a cheaper alternative to the Nook Color, something that could be hacked into an Android tablet as well as an eReader. Did I make a good choice? (crosspost from r/technology for relevance) by shatterdollin Android

Like wkw3 said, the lack of a capacitive touch screen just ruins any hint of usability. Combine that with slow hardware and it just feels like a chore to use compared to the ease of more expensive tablets. I'm not busting on the low price point, but they definitely sacrificed a bit too much to reach it.

No. Return it. I've dealt with many of these as an ebook assistant (of sorts) at a library. They don't deserve to be in the same room as nook Color.

The Creator of Angry Birds says that Console Games are dying.... I think his success is making him a jerk by [deleted]in gaming

Wow. You guys are seriously offended by this? Do you realize Angry Birds has been downloaded twice as many times as Playstation 3s exist in this world? I still think the Dreamcast was the pinnacle of gaming, but sometimes you just have to accept the change. Mobile is about to become the most widespread platform for gaming, whether you like it or not. I don't see this guy standing over a corpse and doing a dance. He's merely stating a simple fact.

I believe this is known as "pulling a Lars Ulrich". Yes, you're legally right, but you're still kind of being a douche; albeit a talented douche.

"Web designers" that cut up their PSDs and use tables. What do you think? by [deleted]in web_design

You're overlooking an opportunity. Convince this guy to start handing you the PSDs, properly mark them up yourself, and then send them to the client. Then you're both be focusing on what you like to do and completing projects in even less time. This is how I always dealt with the situation when paired with "Web Designer"s.

Murdoch on Piracy: "They're not crazy kids. No. Punish them." by DonMastain reddit.com

It's worth noting that the record label he founded, Rawkus, made a good chunk of change from posthumously releasing Big L's The Big Picture. I mean... I'm a pretty big fan of that album, don't get me wrong... but I don't think anyone who knowingly publishes works from an artist that often talks about killing and raping nuns deserves the right to preach from a moral high-ground. Especially when the artist himself was no longer around to financially benefit from said publishing.

I also enjoyed how this article did a nice job juxtaposing the Murdochs' cry for more government intervention while bemoaning the regulations already imposed in another part of the world. That's not a mixed message at all. No, Fox Broadcasting is always anti-government... until their bottom line feels threatened, of course.
